Hi all

Just wondered how the various remap options compare against each other for the 996tt. Prices I've seen vary from £1-£2k for a basic remap and most seem to be an off-the-shelf solution rather than a specific remap. Seems a bit expensive.

Since it seems possible to remap via the OBD-II connector, I just wondered if there's any DIY software/cable to download the rom, view/modify the maps & reflash?

I'm not an expert by any means, but had reasonble success with my Evo and some free software called EcuFlash (www.opencu.org). As long as you monitor/log knock levels and AFR it should be possible to release a few ponies on the cheap?

Hello Boony
The pricing is driven by a combination of R&D costs to develop the code along with a relatively small market to sell it into. The Ecuflash stuff is good, especially if you tread carefully. At worst it could end up costing you £2k or so for a set of pistons & a rebore etc. On a 996TT it could end up at between £12 and £30k depending. As Clint Eastwood said "Do you feel lucky ? Well do ya ?"

Cheers

Had a few dealings with DMS Automotive - they've done lots of development work on the TT and it works really well.
KayC had his done, and it was very good - a fantastic improvement.
Worth a call.....thumbup

Hello All,

thought i would let you know i had my Jaguar and my Mates Porsche 996TT remapped @ paramount performance and got some very inpressive figures out of both, the porsche got 60bhp and felt fantastic over standard, there prices were a fraction of others i search for.

Check out there website its www.paramount-performance.com

I hope this helps.

Try Ray West he has done work for alot of other 'Tuners' and a lot of them just re-sell his stuff - he is not the cheapest but does a very good job.

PS - his website is well out of date though.

You get what you pay for, as always.

Tbh I find it staggering when people wish to get extra power on the cheap. As Allan mentioned, the cost of rebuilding these engines is huge, so a few more quid for proper mapping is a small price to pay for piece of mind.

Allan is the top of my list for remapping for two reasons. Firstly, coming from an Evo, I've seen time and time again the results he achieves. But, most importantly, he (or his comapny - not sure if Allan does the work himself) seem to be one of the few who actually adds value to the base map. By this I mean that they get the car on the rollers and tweak the maps to get the best performance for the car in question.

What I find staggering is that people seem prepared to pay £2k+VAT for someone to flash your ECU with an off-the-shelf map and leave it at that. They don't see a rolling road or anything. Where is the value in that?

In my original post, I wasn't trying to get power for nothing. Been there and done it with my Cossie about 13 yrs ago - an expensive lesson to learn. Having said that, if software was available to expose fuel/boost/timing maps then with lambda & knock sensors it would be possible to get a bit more power cheaply and safely.
