Having bought a Cooper MPi with a dodgy syncro on 2nd, I guessed it was time to change the gearbox.

So, engine out, gearbox off, head off, Swiftune SW5i-07 camshaft kit in.

Tonight she starts going back together, new oil pump, gearbox, time the cams is, with a little luck she'll be ready for the bank holiday weekend.

One thing you might like to check before re-assembly. If you had a 4-bolt oil pump and now have a 2-bolt (the only one currently available), check that none of the oil pump bolt holes now not being used break through into the water jacket of the block. If they do you can either remove the set-screws in the positions on the oil pump where those holes in the block line up and drill them out 7 mm diameter and fit the bolts, or block off the threaded holes in the block. If you don't do this, you may have happen what I had. I pumped 2 pints of oil into the water and had to strip the lot down again. Make sure also that you use the thick oil pump gasket rather than the thin one which is sometimes supplied.
It was just a thought.
