Just bought a car and want to transfer the tracker. TRACKER advise that it needs to be tested as 5 years old and need to pay for someone to come out as they can't 'test track' it!!

Any advise on how to test a Thacker, other than getting teh car nicked or if there are independents in south Wales area who can test it welcome.

Cheers

Make sure that your insurance company accept the type of tracker. My GT3 had an old tracker - no longer accepted by the insurance co. If it has been 5 years since, I suggest a similar fate may befall you too.

BEst alternative I found was an RAC Trackstar by Vehtech - as the first year's subscription is included.

I thought the Trackstar wasn't well thought of on this forum?

It's a piss take isn't it? I had the same conversation with them. 80 quid to send out an engineer. Simply and free system however is to take out your keys and push it in a straight line somewhere a few yards -- it should go off...

Now standard on 911 ?

I'm pleased with mine, but it is expensive, and you do have the hassle of carrying the 'driver's' card with you at all times....

Got a cobra VTS as well. Apparently best way to test this is forget the card (real pain to remember everytime you go out) and drive off. You should then get a phone call asking if its you. The Cobra system also enables you to see online where your car is parked at any given time and its last movements I believe, unless you own a Porsche in which case you cannot as the VTS system (basically a CobraTek system) isnt enabled to do this (even though Porsche charge you more per year than Cobra for the pleasure).

I read goo dreviews of the Trackstar. At the end of the day, for most it is just an insurance requirement. I don't want to check where my car is on my mobile phone or web browser. I'm sure the people who can do this only do it for the first week they have the tracker anyway!!

FOr me, I wanted to get the most cost efficient system that WASN'T Tracker, as their customer relations are crap and £80 for an engineer to check a battery is taking the piss. Vehtech is the only place I found offering 1st year subs, which is £120 in my back pocket!!

This may well be a good place to remind anyone reading that hell will have to freeze over before I buy anything from Tracker. My personal experiences are that their customer support system is worse than pisspoor.

I was dismayed when I realised this GT2 had one of them fitted because I'd rather have paid a grand to any of their competitors than have to pay for activating this one. In fact I've decided that when this year's subscription (which I transferred so is already paid for) comes to an end I'm going to go to the trouble and expense of having it taken out and replaced with a competitor's tracking system...

I have an RAC trackstar and a couple of times a year I phone them and get them to test the operation which they do no probs. Today the keyfob stopped working, I called them and within minutes they emailed me the programming procedure. Hope it works as I paid £300 for lifetime subs!

May try this myself but if anyone is closer to doing it than I would be interested in hearing the results - I was told by a Tracker customer rep that you have to call them or the Police and report as stolen for them to activate the device and for it to work. Sounds feasible but may be a ruse to protect their own income from on-site testing of course...

But the whole point is that it tells you it's stolen! FFS these people are rubbish.

OPC collected my car on a flatbed (nice guys) ... within 5 mins Tracker had called me to ask whether the car had been pinched.....

Go with the original post and push down a very gentle hill - with hand firmly on the handbrake ;-) Suspect having your key in the ignition will prevent the activation....
