does colour really matter?
Discussion
Hi,
I'm looking for a little advice from those that know...
I'm looking to buy a 996 4s at the moment and there are a few on the market that i am taking a look at. Spec the same, miles pretty much the same, but one is black and the other silver. I know that silver 911s arent exactly in short supply, and that this 'apparently' has an effect on their value, but is this true? And importantly, when buying a 4S does this matter as much when it comes to the price i should be paying, or the value at resale?
any help gratefully received.
Paul

I think colour matters a lot when you have a large choice,on older rarer cars there will be less choice therefore people will compromise more..Black appears to be the colour that everyone wants with 996's..i had a Guards red c4s which was VERY difficult to sell.. You've picked pretty much the 2 most sought after colours. The supply/demand ratio is slightly better with black cars, but I think you should be choosing the colour you prefer, as neither will be a problem come re-sale.
Choose the colour you like and enjoy it, don't let the next owner's choice decide for you!
Alternatively, if you're not that bothered either way, then don't make it part of the equation - buy the best car based on other factors: condition, price, service from seller etc etc.

Freind of mine, who's in the trade, had previously bought a couple of 996 4S's new, one black and one silver, very similar specs, kept them for about 9 months, then moved them on with similar mileage. He was then offered an extra £1K for the black one when trading in to the same dealer. Apparently there was a preference for black C4S's and silver porka's getting common. Not sure if still applies, but black would get my vote.
I am in the same situation at the moment and it does seem that Silver is the safe option although thats all you seems to see nowadays is silver 911's, i personally love the speed yellow and a 911 is a sportscar afterall so it is upto yourself, BUT if you are thinking of the value say 2-3 years down the line then a i guess Silver & Black are what people are after, i would tend to avoid Blue and there is a horrible Bottle Green C4s in the Autotrader thats been lurking about for a few weeks.

Before I got my Silver '3', I was looking at a C4S, but i only wanted it is Guards Red.. I think they look the nut... But its everyone to there own !
At £32k this looks pretty cheap for a high spec facelift 996 with 29k miles -
dealer site
but if it wasn't green it would surely have sold?
I think its great value... any opinions?
