I have always thought that a 996 C4S would be my next ride, But tonight I was sat behind a 997 C4S, & I noticed that the rear arches just looked to wide at somepoint they were near horizontal. I have never noticed this before.

Is the 996 c4s the same as the 997 c4s from the rear?

A 996 C4S has beautiful lines, the 997 C4S struggles with it's looks, it's a little more aggressive and it's missing the rear reflector of the 996 which really helps.

Slightly off topic but it regards the C4s, just emailed a potential seller and asked if the car still had any of the warranty left and was informed:- No warranty BUT "It has had the gearbox, clutch and front seats changed and gearbox oil leakfixed - these are / were common things that went wrong with early C4S"

Not wanting to wind anyone up here BUT every 996 i have queried has had some kind of problem FIXED? Anyone actually had a problem free 911?

never had a problem free car. The difference is Porsche fix evrything either under warentee or via "goodwill"

Thats the thing Lightweight - All the problems i have had with previous cars have been intermittant trivial issues like rear brake lights, electric window jamming, rattle from my exhaust etc, etc,(Apart from my Elise that is which to be honest sounds like what 996 ownership will be like)NOT Gearbox,Oil Leaks,Clutches and issues that may leave you without a car for a day never mind for a week - I am just slightly wary of paying £40k for a car that may be in and out of the garage BUT its ok because Porsche will fix it under warranty or through a goodwill gesture??

I dont know about you but i have better things to be doing that waiting around an OPC service area for my car to get fixed wither i am paying for it or not. Maybe i should source an extra £5k and buy the newer 997.

Had a 996 C4S for over 18 months now, bought at 15 months old with 10k on now on 30k, and not had a single problem with it :-)) Been in for major and minor services at OPC and suprised to see on both occasions standard service costs.

Unlike the boxter S which had more oil leeks than a sive, this ones been a joy.
