Best oil for Porsche 996 with 3.6 X50 Engine......
Discussion
Different car but I've been using Castrol Edge (previously RS) in my race car and after a full season plus track days the engine is putting out all the power it should and there was nothing whatsoever on the sump plug magnet. Thought I might have buzzed it at the weekend, luckily I didn't but the cylinder leakage test showed it was within the tolerance for a new engine.
I use 10-60 Edge Sport "for highly stressed and competition engines" but Castrol do various grades of their "Edge" performance oil so there should be one to suit yours. I get it from a trade only outlet but Demon Tweeks will do it mail order, as will various eBay sellers.

Had a talk from a guy who works for Toyota F1 team as the Oil & Fuel manager. He came to the R19 PCGB meeting at Reading on Sat. From what he said, Mobil 1, 0-40w, works well in your engine. It's the best trade-off between engine protection and efficiency ( cold starting and fuel economy...whatever that is!!). There maybe other oils available with similar specs, but none will be any better, otherwise they ( Toyota) would use them!
