My brother was to have this installed on his car.
The hood looked crap as the other bits.
Front bumber didn't fit at all.

Has anyone had it installed?

Just recently had mine Armourfended www.armourfend.com after doing a little research on which company to go with.

The 3M Film and patterns used seem to be a good fit, although there are a few slight raised/stretch marks which i'm told will disappear over the next few days/weeks... I guess time will tell.

Overall i'd give them an 8 out of 10 for quality, fit & finish and hopefully it will do its job of keeping the paintwork free of stonechips.

I went for Paint Shield on mine, and I have to say the fit seems to be excellent, the film is pretty much up to the edges and therefore very difficult to see.
I beleive they are the only people who do a complete 997 bonnet, although this is either a 2 or 3 piece option - the joins are very neat and small on the 3 piece option.

However I've also had a few marks and blemishes which meant it had to be re-done, but looks much better this time.
Must say the installer was great to deal with, and no hesitation in re-doing the areas I wasn't happy with, to be honest black is the worst colour for this as it will show up every small mark.
It does have a good shine with slight orange peel, but on the whole looks very good.
I don't think you'll get anything that's completely invisible, especially when you know it's there.

I did see another 997 with partial front covering but not sure what type, I do know it was about 5mm from all the edges, and could easily be seen as there was polish residue around the whole film edging so it looked even worse.

It's a pretty fiddly job to get right, so much depends on the installer I'd say.

Were did you have it 're-done'? Did you have to take it to them ...or was it done at home?
Mine needs a little adjustment, but I don't really want to travel miles to get it done.

pauljte,

I'm up in Scotland and had it done in Edinburgh, although the main supplier/installer is in Lincolnshire, see www.xpeleu.com/
I believe they do a lot of Official Porsche press cars etc down in Reading, not sure if you could organise something when they were in the area.
The guys in Edinburgh offered to travel to Aberdeen if I supplied a suitable workshop ie clean/dust free and well lit, and paid their extra expense for the original installation, but I didn't bother. The second time it suited me to go back to Edinburgh at the time so I didn't hassle them for anything. If anything needs re-done this time they will come to Aberdeen at their own expense, inluding finding a suitable place to work.

PS - Not sure there's any adjustment once it's fitted, I think once it's on the only way to adjust is to take it off and fit a new piece - could be wrong but that's the impression I got.

Had my 997RS done by Anne at PaintShield - brilliant job and fits very close (less than 4mm) to all panel edges. It amazes me how they can stretch and manipulate the material round 3D curves and still get the edges to fit properly. Absolutely no cutting or trimming on the car - all die-cut panels.

Although its a brilliant job, I was expecting the bonnet to be done in one piece - mine has 3 pieces, one big piece covering the whole bonet except for the top 150mm and 2 small pieces to the top left and right sides. The join between these and the large piece make it obvious that the car has a plastic film coating. It may look better if the 2 small panels were removed - but hey, I want to want to use it on the track and keep stone chips at bay so I don't mind too much how it looks.

Had Armourfend on my CSL. Hardly noticeable on a Silver/Grey car. Worth every penny and especially a must for anyone with CF bumpers. They're very brittle and don't absorb stone chip impacts eventually causing the paint to crack and peel. Had two bumper resprays then immediately fitted the armourfend - job done.

Had ventureshield fitted on my 997RS - no issues from my side. However, the guy who did it also has a 997RS and told me that it is the hardest bumper to do that he has seen.

Hi, I trust the weather is fine where you are right now in fairness I did try to get you to come down to us and although the Installer had worked for two plus years with a competitor and is very skilled, these full frontals are of an order of magnitude few people in the world are capable of right now.

Even more unfortunate was it being a Black car. The guys in Edinnburgh are committed to getting your car up to OUR specs and will do so. It may just take them a little while to get the hang of this.

It is the reason we have only one Dealer in England cleared to do these out of the whole of our network (other than ourselves of course)

Any installer thinking they can just step into these full frontals without a VERY STEEP learning curve is deluding themselves (and some will NEVER be able to do this)

I give you my Unequivacol guarantee that should they not hit your expectations we WILL get directly involved in support.

Cheers

Tom

In hindsight probably should have came to you, but Edinburgh was more conveniant at the time and after talking to them at length first, didn't think there would be any issues.
It does look much better this time around, although since I'm now abroad for 5 weeks will see how it looks when I get back after it's all settled.
As I said they are keen to fix it properly, was beginning to think I was being too fussy but as you say they may just lack the 'full frontal experience' !

Anyway thanks again Tom for the re-assurance, will keep you posted.

PS - The weather was great when I left home, even better wher I am now !!

Whereabouts in Sweden are you Patrik, we were over there 3 weeks ago doing 4 cars full frontal maybe you could arrange to see those?

Tom,
we are down in the south outside Malmoe just across from Copenhagen. He actually drove to Gothenburg to have it done (300km's). Please let us know who's cars and where you did it. I might be interested on my CSL and 996 GT3 RS as well as his 997 GT3.

Guam, I would also be interested in seeing an example of your work in the South West area (UK!). Live near Exeter, and looking to protect a 987 Boxster S (once the existing stone chips have been rectified) and a 997 GT3. Where is the closest option? thanks

My RS is delivered in June

I'd be interested to know how much this treatment costs and how that compares to a respray?

Also can you can have it on the doors / over the rear arches?

Finally how easy is it to get it off??!

Cheers

Hi Mid Life give us a call

I will get binned if this gets any nearer sell mode

On a non selling issue we can design parts for any panel when required.

You're doing well, did you see my earlier message?

HI Patrick give me a call I can be found through my profile, and I will give you the details of where at least one of the cars can be found. (Near Stockholm with a large Tuner and Wheel distributor)

I would point you at the swedish ringrunners forum but I think its invite only, as at least one car is on there.

Cheers

Tom

My brother will give you a call. Are you talking about OCL Brorssons?
