Discussion
Evening all,
Just thought I'd post on here a link to the latest video from the Nobby Hills Racing team.
As you can see, last weekend the Houndog team took another important step to getting the new Fuel Funny Car down the strip.
go to www.nhracing.com and click on the Galley section the find the latest vid of the engine turning over for the very first time.

I just noticed on the website the name Jason Phelps, is he any relation to Roy and Bob Phelps?
Yeah its Roy Phelps' son apparently.
Any old pics you have I'm sure the team would love to see them! Drop them an email with them attached.
On the subject of the old Houndog's you should check out www.houndogdragracing.co.uk if you don't know about it already.
I've been involved with the team doing all the video stuff for about a year or so now. Really can't wait to see the new car do its first couple of test runs. I'll be sure to post them on here when the edits are done.

Ooo! Great video, so well made.
I wonder if my parents still have my old Houndog denim jacket *rubs chin* Not that it would fit me, its a childs size!
My parents have a 2ft by 2ft picture on the wall of a past Houndog funny car (white) to look at everytime they eat their dinner... It has been there as long as i can remember.

ln the historic footage was the Red "Houndog" the ex-Paula Murphy car?
The "Miss STP" Plymouth Duster, driven by Paula Murphy became Houndog 7
In 1973?

Thanks for the info Bowler.
l emailed NH Racing re: whether the New "Houndog" will be at the Main Event.
NH Racing have given me permission to post their reply:
We will not be at the Main Event unfortunately, still so many little things to do, but we have made some significant steps and are really pleased to have got the car fired up.

I am guessing the requirement for their driver to do a few events in a 'lower' division in order to license may have something to do with that as well, John
Evening again guys.
As far as I know there are still a fair few tests they have to run with the car before they stick it on the 1/4 mile.
I know the engine is now being stripped down and the actual race prepped parts being fitted. Then all the safety gear will go on. Then its going to be a couple of 1/8 1/4 1/2 and full passes down the track in private before they let her loose on the public.
I know I for one am looking forward to those long smokey burnouts the houndog became known for... and with a little bit of tweaking, some serious times

emagine ,i think your going to be slightly disapointed burnout wise ! if the new houndog car was going to be a retro funny car with a single pump/mag set up and other old stuff ,meaning very old houndog then i suppose we would be seeing long smokey burnouts ,but with todays modern funny cars which the new houndog is going to be built up too or as near to the latest state of the art spec ,excluding the body obviously ,we dont seem to see burnouts like what your talking about ! not like the burnouts in the old days ,now its short/shortish burnouts not a huge amount of smoke , we see the same scenario with the top fuel cars as well ,short/shortish burnouts not a lot of smoke !its a shame really it was great to watch . the only funny cars doing long smokey burnouts now are the alkie burners ! cant wait to see freddie lay some loooooooong burnouts down at the main event . !
There are some interesting thoughts and comments being posted here, and on behalf of the team we thank you all for your enthusiasm and support.
Regarding testing issue, Stuart is 100% right (as he should be as he is on the inside along with me!) we want to do some testing behind closed doors as it were before going into the public domain.
Regarding the burnouts, certainly the burnouts here in the UK aren't like they used to be, but John Force for example has been known to lay down a smokey one or two and he has the most up-to-date technology so lets see.....we may have some tricks up our sleeve !
The transmission issue (or lack of !) certainly stops the dry hops and that sort of stuff, as we know the NFAA have got that one buttoned down.
Thanks again for the interest shown, see you at the drag strip soon.
