Further to my earlier post about cleaning a K&N filter, I took it off at the weekend to have a look at it. I noticed that the filter was missing most (more than half) of the cotton-like material that sits inside the plastic gauze part of the cone filter. This filter has not seen unusual use (such as a particularly dirty environment) and has only now just reached 30000 miles. On their website it says that the recommended service interval is 50000-100000 miles.

I was wondering if this is a common occurence, considering the 10 year/million mile warranty they have and also whether it is possible to buy just the cone filter separately as a replacement. There is no need for me to buy the whole kit as I already have the associated pipework and bracketry.

You can buy the cones seperately, but I'd complain about the service life and see if you can get one free.
