Why are OPC's pushing Tiptronic rather than manual for 997 TT ?
Sales teams seem to be doing the same around the country. Anyone know why? Presume there is a target or commission bonus.
Also most demonstrators are Tip, hard to find a manual to try. Cars seem to be available within 3 months if you ask around.

I put a manual around Millbrook and it was great fun.
Dealers always make a lot more margin (%) on extras than the base cars... I guess that they have a fixed allocation of TTs (which are relatively easy to shift) so they might as well squeeze as much margin as possibly out of the cars that they do have available for sale.
I also remember when I ordered my TT (before I cancelled it!) that the transmission had to be specified well in advance... so they have probably had an unexpectedly high demand for manuals and are therefore having to shift more tips.
How's that for a bit of speculative thinking?!

With Tip S less than 2K, so hard to believe it's a major part of their profit?
Either they have a surplus of auto-boxes to shift, or they need more future work for their service depts. On the used market after 2-3 years manuals always seem to attract better price, presumably as enthusiasts come on board instead of the S-class converters.
Anyway, why did you cancel your order wrn?

Seem to remember from the launch data that the tip box allowed the car to accelerate quicker than a manual version. Quite a bit of discussion on this at the time if you do a search.
You need to drive a tip to realise that there is much more to it than just 0.1 sec, over such and such speeds.
Think of it as an automatic and you will have a better idea of why auto Porsches trade in at up to 10% less than their manual counterparts.
The gearbox is good, but its no manual.

I cancelled my order because after putting a TT around Millbrook I decided that it simply didn't stir up enough excitement in me to warrant a six figure spend. My AMV8 provided a FAR greater sense of occasion - but unfortunately didn't work so had to go back after 6 months.
Just need to find a car that works and provides excitement... perhaps they are mutually exclusive.

Very accurate, I'd say.

Yeah I cancelled my TT as well, after a full weekend with a manual, which I found immensley uninvolving/uninspiring (subsequent drives of a Tip proves that this is even more so!)
I've got my name on a 997GT2 now.
