Help me I have falled in love with a car

Hi guys, picked this up of the S series web site.
Great site, and alot for me to read.
I spotted a TVR S Series in the golf club recently and fell in love on the spot.
Never really notived this car before, but now its in my dreams.
Trouble is I am new to old / classic cars, and as a result could get caught out BIG time with this. And I am also not sure its suitable? Do you all put these away in winter?
Is it not viable to use as a regualar run around 9-5 car? Not even the later/newer models?
If this is the case i have been looking at the chimera, still a great car that looks good, but doesn have the same grace as the S
Any advice welcomed, but just wanted to say hi, and I will get on with reading the site.

Plenty of S's are used as daily drivers, incl mine.
Most running parts are from Ford or Rover so spares still available. Some quirky parts are becoming less easy to source now but ingenuity can overcome.
The values have dropped a bit recently as Chims and Griffs start to appear in the £8 - 10k bracket so now more of a bargain for a buyer than ever.

as Chims and Griffs start to appear in the £8 - 10k bracket so now more of a bargain for a buyer than ever. I had an S then a Chimaera as everyday cars, now S for weekend fun only. I did 50,000 miles in my first S over 4.5 years without any problems. Chimaera was more refined for everyday use but more costly to run.
If I was doing it again the only change I'd make before using the S everyday is to upgrade the headlights rather then using the standard candle powered lights through the winter.
For cheap Chim money that's what you'll get - a cheap Chimn that is cheap for a reason. For good S money you should get an great car with less chance of big things going wrong too soon. A mate of mine recently got himself a VERY cheap Chim only to find it needed nearly £3k spending on it within 2 months of ownership

These cars are a bit like women in that they need a lot of maintenance...tlc sort of stuff...and even when you've done a whole bunch of stuff they can throw it back in your face and go all temperamental on you...they mostly respond to a regular bit of use though, unlike women who do go off our attentions sometimes...
If you've fallen in love with a car though.....some sort of counselling maybe...?....you can't have sex with it..

If you ever near the NEC drop us a shout, be great to meet up and take a little look at yours and have a chat if that was cool?

Nope, do'nt recognise that trait, that makes it sound tempramental. I've had mine 4 years, used all year round, never garaged only needs regular all round maintenance, brilliant car.

FYI I've been to look at this one today - IMHO it isn't that great.
Scabby outriggers and scabby interior and therefore very overpriced.
Looks far better on the photos than in the flesh.
A wad of history but needs some TLC.

pity about that, but it does show that you need to have a good look at a few and make sure your heart is disengaged and your head is clear when you make your final choice. enjoy the search, good luck

Maybe you should still take a look at it anyway with it being so close so that you can find the sort of stuff that Chris is warning about... all good experience. You could also blag a test drive methinks... just remember to walk away... difficult when they look and sound so good (hence switch heart off !)

Hi Pete,
I had an S3 for 2 years and used it as an everyday car covering about 8 - 9k miles p.a. (including regular trips in rush hour and a couple of snowy journeys)
IMO you're more likely to have problems with one that's used only occasionally since most components cope better with regular use. Just buy carefully and don't skimp on the maintenance and you should be fine.

The Herts/Beds TVR car club RO has a stunning "S".
I saw the underside of the car at Offords on Saturday and you could eat off it it was that clean (fully restored).
I did hear him saying that he was lusting after a 4.3 Griff....you may want to contact him - known as "grumpy bear" here on PH.
