we have had the s for a couple of months with no problems
apart from the dubious elecric steering box, torque steer on boost and the car wanting to swap ends a bit under very heavy braking on uneven surfaces. all of which are part of this little cars charm!

however, just taken the dealers technician out for a spin and he
has confirmed we 've got a dodgy rattling sound coming from the engine bay when puting the car under moderate load below 1500 rpm in any year. eg rolling up to the lights, leave it in 2nd still moving, pull off below 1500rpm with clutch fully disengaged and it rattles like a 1959 ford anglia pre detonating on 2 star.

booked in next week . he admits he has no idea!

have any of you guy's had anything similar

any assist would be appreciated

regards

Hey Yak, is that you? It's Anis here. I've just taken delivery of an R56 MCS. Not sure how long it will last but loving every minute so far.

BTW check out www.mini2.com which has a whole list of faults for the R56, and most things are covered on there.

Hi Anis,
hows it going? Good to hear you’re enjoying the s, bit different to the csl eh?
I bought one for nipping about when the other two
Cars were not quite appropriate!!

Thought I would hate the under steer thing but have to say I quite like the whole experience, lot of fun. You can get it to corner with a bit of tail out with enough commitment! Gave it death through Snowdonia the other day, really very quick, although
Only got 23mpg average for the tank! Must be faulty?

Looked on the other forum thanks, some have the rattle, but no one seems to know the answer yet?

Will have to keep my ear to the ground as the dealer hadn’t got a clue...

Regards

Yak

Mine does the same.. Every time that I've taken it to the dealer they claim that nothing is wrong.

Not sure how hard you're driving it but even then 23mpg sounds pretty bad. I get 29mpg and I'm in London so effectively that's the same as driving it hard. I would push the dealer for some form of resolution.

snowdonia on a very quiet early morning, as prev said "good

It's off boost and under load, so will probably 'pink' a little.

Use 99 octane fuel and keep the revs slightly higher. That should sort it.

Mine has done that but not all the time.

I've been more concerned with the clutch / gearbox noises... Just beginning the rejection process now so all a bit of arse!

I think its something to do with the valvetronic system from what i have heard, is normal, the 4 cylinder BM`s with the latest valvetronic on can do it a bit too

I've got this rattle. I have a new timing belt tensioned on order. Apparently it's yet another common fault
