Just checking my favourites folder today and came across this site for a dealer in the US.

www.rpmsportscars.com/

They have quite a few nice low mileage 993 turbos (and s's) for what seems like big money to me....

The Americans do seem to put hardly any mileage on their cars, it would be hard to find this many low mileage 10year old + cars in the UK.

Mileage is not an indicator of condition remember though!!! (ahem)

I don't understand why people buy these cars and just don't drive them.
How much do you think they were bought for? I cannot believe they would have made that much money on them. Surely they would have been better off investing their money in property since 1991.

I would love to have my dream garage one day too but I would drive my cars not just have them standing there.

The list of 993s on that site could be used for all those threads: "Does anyone have a picture of a <colour> coloured 993 Turbo?"

Even $190k for a Turbo S? I don't really know my values, but that sounds a bit steap. I guess they retail in the uk for about £65-70k??? Maybe not as lower mileage.

They all seem brand new condition though...

i agree, there would be a split divide with some people about putting them in storage (wrong) or driving them as they were intended (correct).

Major depreciation if you do put the miles on i would guess??? Maybe not the rarer models...

RPM are just down the road from me, they have a very good reputation for suppling quality Porsches.

If they look in new condition that's because they are. Porsches are holding prices well over here at the moment especially rare and low mileage ones and a 993TT S is a bit of a rarity on either side of the pond at the minute.

People do put a hell of a lot of miles on cars over here it's not unusual to see 2004/2005 vehicles with 100,000 miles on them, therefore special cars generally are used as weekend machines. Good Idea when average commutes can be 40/50 miles each way a day for some folks.

And if you check the original window stick (Retail Price) for the top 993TT S it was $155,000 new.

At our current exchange rate, that is really cheap. £75k for new 993 TT S. I think they were £110k over here.

22K miles Turbo S here - not cheap though at £75K.
www.gmundcars.com/cars/617/993turbosspec.html

Those low mileage 993TTs they have are cheaper than here though - a <10k miles 993TT here would be £60k+ I'd have thought.

At the exchange rate for 1st September 1997 it was $97,500. Still cheap compared to the UK and just go on the US Porsche site today and build an all options 997TT and compare it to the UK price and you'll be right P'd off.
That's why I moved here

I came over on an L1A visa which is an inter-company transfer, so it was really easy.

But if i had my own company, i suppose its a case of closing down here and reopening one over there. ie - not very straight forward. Looking for reasons to explain the move to the wife may be interesting also....
