Well, my '99 996 C4 (which I've had for 5 years) developed what seemed to be a coolant leak that over a week became quite serious. I though it was a cracked header tank or some-such.

Anyway, had the car flatbedded to Reading OPC and they came back with the following faults: water pump buggered (£565); 'plug tubes leaking from cylinders 4, 5, 6' (£186) and oil separator needs replacing (£912).

All covered by the warranty, fortunately.

However, even without a warranty these cars are fantastic daily-drivers. As long as you budget approx £2k a year in servicing and repairs, especially in the older ones. Mines done 106k miles thus far.

Have you had to warranty for five years? Is this your first claim?

johnfm will write....

"You've paid 5 years at £800 a year and that's four grand and if you had a GT3 you wouldn't need the warranty anyway............."

I've had the warranty for 4 years and have had to claim previously (3 or 4 times, including one RMS leak). Can't recall exactly how much each claim was for, but I'm sure they more than covered the warranty each time.

The one year I didn't have the warranty - Sod's law the car left me stranded (solenoid problems in the engine) and I had a bill of £1,000!!

Nope - wasn't going to mention the GT3. Just that if its 5 yrs x £800, he's got a £4k fixing fund!!

No he hasn't!!

£1500 this time, £1000 for RMS, leaves him with £1500... then there's the other claims which he didn't elaborate on.

So he's up, surely?

Depends if you use an OPC or indie

Yep - its paid off. Good stuff!! Good to hear someone is happy with the warranty service the OPCs provide.
