While doing other DIY jobs I also found time to install the new LED side lights from www.aceparts.com/

Way back Alan had sent me a set when I had ordered something. While the originals matched the Xenons in colour they lacked the diffusion of light normal bulbs have resulting in a blue dot.

So I pestered Alan for ages to bring out a new set that had the colour of the LEDs yet could fill the socket like a normal bulb. Anyway about 5months later the new MKII versions arrived.

Upon fitting them they didn’t look much brighter than the old set and TBH I was a little disappointed. However once it gets dark the difference becomes apparent.

The MKII LEDs are about 40% brighter than the MKI’s (about the same as the stock headlights!). Though they fill the socked with light, I still think they could do with more diffusion instead of projecting the light out of the socket

Below are some shots of the lights with a slow shutter

They look superb- can you tell me the exact part number for when I ring Alan tomorrow!

Also looked at your website and seems if I am not mistaken that you have refurbed/repainted your calipers- any advice? Thanks

I bought a pair of the 5-led clusters from Alan H6W and they are cool. The do project just enough light as they are although looking at the car from in front, you can clearly see that it's a cluster of 5 LED's and as such, I wouldn't be surprised if Mr MOT man / plod took a dim view. The diffuser idea sounds good but if the light projected is too high it's going to look a bit StarWars in the fog and all those photons being projected out *must have* a negative impact on top speed (or should I say CO2 emissions). :-)

and will it still have a flat beam or does the contour of the light alter with HID?

It will be exactly as your beam is now - only 3 x as bright

Would they give rise to any MOT issues, if they're not road legal?

I ordered an HID kit for my 993 from Alan earlier in the week and received the free LED sidelights yesterday. If they're not going to cause problems with MOTs, I may fit them.

The MOT station cant take anything off of the car to have a look therefore it will be hard for an MOT station to see if the bulb has that approval stamp
