I will stick with stock then. Since the new KW suspension was put in, geo is gret and understeer is much, much reduced anyway. Its just that the new suspension seems to have highlighted the lack of tyre grip - whereas before, the suspension was the weak point in the chain.

I know what you mean - most Mk1 GT3s with 20k+ miles will have worn suspension by now. The KWs are of so much higher quality than OEM that it genuinely transforms the handling of the car and shows up other weaknesses you didn't think about before. Ahhh... the slippery slope!

If the KW's are firmer than the original set up, this will cause you to feel you have less grip than previously. This could be more evident at either end, meaning it could cause over or under steer. When having the setup done on the KW’s, did they take into account the tyres you’re running, or just put standard KW settings on?
Anyway, whatever tyre you go for, expect to find benefits in tailoring the suspension to suit and you’ll find you’ll get a lot more performance out of both. The guys at KW in Germany are very helpful when looking for suggested settings. Make sure you tell them what else they should be taking into consideration (such as tyres) and how the car’s behaving, and they should be able to help you out with some suggestions. It’s then a process of trial and error to perfect the setup.
Klaus (their head test driver bloke) took the car out on his usual test roads around Fichtenberg. He was happy with the car, but thought the tyres were not great. When he came back, he made some changes to the rear damper settings.
I have since (ie yesterday) checked tyre pressures (again) and I was running them too low for street driving (ie I don't get enough heat in the tyres on the road, as I don't drive liek a tosser,). I have upped the cold pressures to 35fr 40r. Immediately noticable was slightly less incilnation for ABS to be engagegd under 'test braking'.
Either way, I will get the R888s on next week for testing. I will probably stick with std size, as it is a more like for like comparison with the std pilot sports I ran before and the current proxes.

I've got Manthey KWs which are revalved/resprung KW3s bespoke for Porsche GT3s. It's not just an issue of a stiffer setup. The rates of damping and spring rates do not necessarily mean a stiffer setup, but a better/more controlled compromise on the road/track. It's also the rigidity/lack of free play in the KWs over OEM that contributes to the feeling of better control and increased precision. Over bumpy surfaces with the right settings (3 way adjustable), the KWs provide better contact of the tyre patch with the road increasing grip, not diminishing it.
And DanH, before you ask - the KW people confirmed at Snet on Tuesday that yes, the Manthey KWs are based on the KW3s which are a 3-way adjustable setup.
