Guys - can anyone with a brand new 997 let me know what navigation disks it has in it... ie year.. I had my PCM upgraded (June 05 997 C2S) and now it shows traffic and has postcode search but the map data seems a little old to me

Cheers

How much to get upgraded? I may get mine done if a few quid. Like the idea of postcode search. Does it have POI as well?

There was me actually berating the 997 SatNav to a mate last night for not having post code entry..... When all I needed to do was actually read the manual or ask....

Nice One Blow Dog.

Is this likely to be the same solution on a 987 Boxster sat nav, as I understand they are the same units?

Same here . Mine only seems to take the the first 4 characters though. Is there a way of entering the full code?

Nope, first section of the postcode (normally 3 or 4 digits) then the first character of the next set.

So for example,

NW11 4

Instead of:

NW11 4PS

I've found it to be perfectly reliable even in this instance and you'll find it drills down to a small set of roads you can browse through.

Absolutely blow dog - works fine and the first few characters of the post code ensure the system returns a reduced number of potential roads which is useful... would still be interested to know what date the most recent nav disks have on them, however, so if anyone with an 07 could pop the hood and have a look at the disk and post the answer I'd be grateful!

You cannot do a full postcode search on Porsche's sat nav system yet! Yes, you can do a partial but this may not always help.
I cant believe this is unavailable on a £2000 system but buy a £200 tom-tom and bob's your uncle.
Extremely poor Mr Porsche.

Sorry, I know this is neither helpul nor constructive, but can I ask why you ordered the £2k system when a £200 tom-tom is better in every respect?

My disk is dated 10/06, picked the car up end of last month.

The system does seem more complicated and tricky to use compared to a Tom Tom, but once you get a bit more familiar, it seems to have plenty features and works pretty well.
I only just found out you could access hotels etc and get their phone numbers and addresses from it, but I guess that's a fairly standard feature these days.

It's under POI - points of interest. You can select or deselect a range of POIs from hotels, churches, supermarkets etc.. My nav disk has a date of 10/06. I was told that the next update is likely to have accident blackspots included also.

anyone 'backed up their DVD yet' (I'm serious..if you scratch it or damage it, they are about £300 to replace) - I haven't got access to my DVD writer at the moment to test it...I got a new 997 a few days ago and sods law says they bring a new DVD out next month ! (they did that with my first 997 !) - postcode searching is rubbish, like on BMW's it doesn't do the last digit which means that you could be within 8 miles of where you want to be !
