Body off

Just about disconnected everything reaady to lift body - the only thing I cannot find are the two bolts which everyone says are on top of tunnel somewhere near radio. I was hoping to get away with not removing the dash/tunnel - should I be able to see them with the rear of centre console lifted by about 6-9 inches. Has anyone got any pictures of exactly where they are - perhaps they weren't fitted to mine ???

I have looked from underneath and couldn't see anything - they may bolt straight into chassis where tunnel cross brace meets tunnel chassis side bars ???

You will have to move the centre console back out of the way, they are in each corner under the fresh air hoses. I didn't have to disconnect any wires but had to disconnect the fresh air hoses to get the console back far enough.
They are approx. 3 inches back away from the tunnel cross brace.

Not sure if this makes sense ?

I have a picture of the chassis without the body on showing where they are, but don't know how to post pictures.

Dont know about the S2 but my S1 didnt have them and my S3 definatly dose.

The center console / dash comes loose nice and easily anyway screews at the rear and nuts and bolts at the sides in the door shuts.

It is (imho) these bolts where the discussion is about.
Some do, some don't have these bolts.

My oppinion. If you don't see them from underside (exhaust removed) you simply don't have them.

Thanks everyone. Removed dash/centre console tonight and no signs of any bolts on tunnel. Had another good look from underneath (exhaust is removed) and cannot see any. Conclusion is there aren't any!!!! By the way it is a 1990 s2 2.9.

Only handbrake cable to remove and then the trial lift. I have noticed a lot of little stones jammed between chassis tube and body so will have to remove them i expect.

Will post some pictures once body off

I am not sure whether a 6 inch lift will be possible with level body.
The tunnel near bulkhead gets narrower lower down, and fauls the top tubes of the chassis.
I suggest keeping that in mind....no drama however

hi my 1990 s2 does not have these bolts spent ages trying to find them as for the body lift the front footwells will foul the chassis tubes you have to get the rear up quite high and move the body back i did mine with 2 prs of steps and a scaffold board under the boot floor good luck ps if you get pi**ed off with it ill buy your chassis kp

Body off at last - yes i did get it stuck a few times lifting it where the body has an undercut by at the fornt tunnel.
