Quick question; how often should I re-proof the mohair lid on my TVR?

It's one year old, and I wash the roof with Mothers Roof cleaner, so not aggressive cleaning. But I haven't re-proofed it in any way and don't especially want to wait for it to leak before I do so.

Also, any particular recommendations? Is Renovo good stuff?

Cheers

Yup, Renovo is about as good as it gets.

Hi mate, I find the most affective way is to clean with an anti bac cleaner i use autoglyms roof kit. Comes with an anti bac cleaner a sponge to aggravate and a sealant. Starting with wetting the roof then applying the antibac and then vacuuming off with a wet vac. Once dry i then apply the sealant. check out this link to one i did yesterday.

When my Porsche was being resprayed at the OPC spray place I asked the guy what to do to protect the hood on the wife's Z3. He said that after cleaning it I could buy a bottle of the Porsche stuff they use on Boxsters for £40..... or I could go to the Army & Navy stores and buy the same stuff for £6.99. I did the latter. I washed the hood with soapy water and a nail brush, rinsed it thoroughly, let it dry and then treated it with NIKWAX UV proof stuff from the A&N shop. Works a treat. While we're on hoods, ours has a plastic back window and I used this stuff - www.morethanpolish.com/mtp/hindsight.asp - fantastic.

Good luck with it.

Cheers guys. Nikwax is the stuff we use on our walking boots and trousers I think. I need some plastic polish too.

Or Renovo, the Ultraproofer is excellent.

The Autoglym kit cleans and conditions beautifully but to restore the colour its back to Renovo!

It's conditioning/re-proofing I'm after. One car is ony 1 year old, and the other has just (this week) had a new hood. So I want to get into prevention before cure rather than vice versa!

I would treat it twice a year, possibly more often if you leave it uncovered during the winter with rain, frost, leaves and general dust etc. Just keep it clean!

Thanks. One is due for some reproofing now then.

303 is supposed to be a pretty good roof cleanser and restorer. Can be found via this link.
