Would this be possible ?

About 2 weeks ago I installed an electric garage door opener ( which is very good for 1 tad over 200 notes, and when I say 'I', I mean a mate did most of the work ). So, now I can open the Noble and open the garage door from inside my house via the remotes.

Okay, here's my wizard wheeze : Would it be possible to connect a remote engine start as well ? It should be easy enough given it has an engine start button, i.e. the circuit is already in place. I mean, how smart would that be ? Open garage door, unlock car, start engine and then think about leaving the house !!

The only thing would be to rememebr not to leave it in gear ofcause.

It would be very easy to do, but i dont think it's legal on a manual transmission in this country.

Yes, I was thinking about the legality as well. I suppose it's just like a turbo-timer ( i.e. which leaves the engine running to cool the turbo then cuts the ignition ). I know they are not legal in the UK. Now I think about it, I'm pretty sure it's not legal to have the engine running with no one in the driver's seat because no one is in control of the car.

Not quite, i think you can do it with an auto as it has an oem interlock. I think there were a few accidents with installed kits, one famous one involving a Fezza.

you can have them fitted - but the problem would be the immobilser

i suggest you get a new alarm fitted and have the remote start option activated

If I recall and I may be wrong the offence is " quitting a motor vehicle". Can't remember what part of the road traffic act it is but leaving a vehicle on a public highway with the engine running is an offence or was 20 years ago

Clifford used to do an alarm with remote start. For a Manual they used to put switches in so the car wouldn't start if it was left in Gear.

I meant fitting the remote starter, not porking your mate's wife.

They will invalidate your insurance as the Remote start are not Thatcham approved, and i think nearly ALL insurers require this. Still nice toy tho, i always wanted one on for clod winter mornings

Are you sure about that, the Clifford one I'm sure was a thatcham approve alarm. The remote start was just and option along with loads of other options like garge opener, boot release.....

If you took that option 6 months ago, then yes, it invalidated the Thatcham approval. The alarm itself is thatcham approved. then when you add the start option on the installers used to tell you it invalidates any thatcham approval. I know the cliffirds now use intellistart 4 module, so maybe this has altered. they need to bypass your std alarm/immob tho obviously. If you get 4 channels you could have the air con/lights to come on too.. Cool

Sure that can't be right, as Clifford sell them for any car. It is an option on quite a few cars like BMW's. My Dads 7 series has the facility to start the engine at a preset time each day.

I`ve got remote start on my other halfs range rover, its a clifford concept, the remote starts the engine then shuts down after 2 minutes, unless you insert the ignition key, this is rated as cat 1, also option on there for garage door, gates etc haedlight delay etc etc neat bit of kit

I'm sure I've seen electric water heaters for cars. You plug the car into the mains, switch on the power, and a little electric water pump and heating element does the business. Much better and safer than running the engine remotely.
