Imagine my surprise as Brock gamely charges for the other side a couple of feet from my front grille...

angel

Imagine my disappointment as sickening thud is rapidly followed by scraping and tinkling as various bits fall from front end...

Imagine my shivery form on the roadside as mighty 156 coughs, all warning lights come on and wick goes out...

Italy's finest bleeds coolant and bits onto verge...

As the steam rose in front of the headlights, can you imagine what I shouted into the night sky as a certain association for automobiles refused to come and help without charging me £104 recovery as "we don't deal with RTAs"

Here's a clue... It wasn't punt. furious

That's bad news mate. I hope it doesn't cost too much to sort out.

I'm with the RAC, they do come and get you if you hit somthing that wanders into the road in front of you.

Brings back memories of comming back from Scarborough after late shift at 0300hrs on summer morning on A170 bowling along in my nice Citroen ZX TD.

Scurry from verge, blur in headlights, bang, tinkle tinkle roll to a stop.

Engine life blood pouring onto road, bottom of front valance all gone and rad smashed.

Walk back 200m and find Badger corpse the size of a large dog at side of road. RIP Badger and RIP Citroen as next day found front suspension mountings all smashed and Insurance write off!! I didn't have a mobile phone then, but I did have by personal radio being a BIB, quick call to control room and RAC tip up and recovered.

Big animals cause big damage sadly

Good luck with your claim.

Had the same problem in my quattro a few years ago - bloody badgers - not sure how it managed to miss the oil cooler but it did, thank god. Only a £1000 for a new (and the last one in the country!) front valance to be fitted!

Things not looking too good - initial report to the insurance company and "computer says write-off". That said, the assessor still needs to see it. Parkers guide price is a rather disappointing £2000. Less excess of some £300 doesn't leave me a lot of wedge for a replacement.... Curse the oily hide of the nocturnal quadruped!

Erm.........your 156 V6.........doesn't happen to be a late 2000/2001 does it?? *she asks hopefully* Only I'm in dire need of a rear cylinder head if worst comes to the worst and you have to break her.

An RTA!

WTF!

So if someone hits a pothole and causes damage that's not covered?

What the hell is the world coming to, I thought roadside recovery was for any eventuality that leaves you stranded without a functioning vehicle?

AA = Anal Analysis

Yet another reason I'm glad I went with the RAC this year!

It's a 98 R. 2.5 l. Don't know if it's the same. Don't know if it is destined for the heap yet, either...

Funnily enough, someone rang from AA to ask if I was ok after my reported incident. Now I have had nothing but excellent service from them in the past, hence being a loyal customer for 10+ yrs, however, I will be heading to the RAC - they will look after you in an accident, not just a breakdown.

Nope it isn't - but hey I've been trawling so many spare part sites recently that if yours is salvageable and you need parts - let me know!

Can't believe the breakdown peeps had that atitude either, I hate to say it but odds on that if it had been a lone female driving they'd have come out - or there would have been uproar!

Bugger.

I hit a fox at around 100 leptons on the A303 one night, luckily they are a lot lighter than badgers but the front of that car was neve cosmetically right again.

As it was a stop-gap Vectra SRi company car before I got my first 156, it was more than it deserved!

I'm a wildlife lover, but I wish it would all stay off the roads. Around here, deer are a massive worry from dusk onwards if out for a blat. And I narrowly dodged a hare the size of a battleship the other day, while in the Focus - had that hit the front of the GTA with it's multiple rads and oil coolers, and the low splitter, god knows what would have happened.

Commiserations crycrycry

Thanks, guys...

Having had to chase the insurance company a couple of times (your call is in a queue and will be answered etc etc) for ages, it looks like it will be a 'total loss' as they call it now. All that remains is to negotiat ethe price with their loss adjusters. So, any thoughts on an approx value on a 98 156 V6, 88k, red, full black leather, big spoiler and sports 'zorst?

Parkers reckons around £2000 from an indy dealer...

Sounds about right IMHO. Mine was 2000 X reg, £3300 @ 100K miles. But it was a wagon and they seem to be slightly cheaper than the saloon :S

Sorry to hear that Offer to buy it back off them, get the parts on ebay and you may be pleasantly surprised at hoe much you can recoup - the leather seats for starters will be a fair bit.
