Road kill, but not for the squeamish

Well on my eventful day, Thursday, I hit something that was already freshly dead. Sadly I was going to fast to stop in time as it appeared from under the car in front of me. The front of my car lifted slightly after a big thud. On closer inspection I found bits of it from the front to the back, with a trail all the way underneath. The worst of it is that it has now crazed the gel coat on the front splitter.



End trails, so to speak …



At first I thought this was the remains of a pheasant but now I am not so sure. I’m going to enjoy cleaning this up.

It Happens to us all, ran over a Dead Fox on my way to Goodwood... Crazing is just an inevitability with 4" ground clearance.....

My forensic analysis of those coarse hairs in the front grill would lead me to think Badger.

I've heard that hitting a badger can be a bit like hitting a small dog, they can make a mess. Glad to see it didn't cause too much mess and damage though.

A guy I knew hit two sheep in a mini bus once, he was doing around fifty when they wandered out in front of him, that was a bit of a mess...

SteveD is spot on as usual. They are badger hairs stuck in the grill. Wash it off ASAP as it will smell awful after a short while and check for "bits" under the car as well. Badgers stink far worse than any other animal as they decompose IMO. Could be something to do with their diet.
Dead badgers on the road are very common around here (Cambridge) as their population has exploded.

Yes I agree with the coarse hair analysis and the strong smell, I will be removing it very soon. It also left a 30m or so trail on the road when I went back the next day, nice!

If you want to be certain it's a badger look closely at the hairs. They are each black,white, black.
