So, you might recall I recently got the windscreen on the 911 replaced (less than a month ago infact).

And i was somewhat miffed the other night when i got a serious stone chip in it, though, it was by the tax disc, so i thought no biggy.

Well, get the car out today, and that little chip has turned into a 4" crack right across the screen.

When i got the screen replaced, they mentioned a 3 year warranty or something, though I doubt this is covered by them, but I thought I would ask if its possible? After all, the glass has cracked!!!!

If not, well I guess at least its only a 50 quid excess to pay, though I have to say, I would prefer to take the car somewhere else, as while they did a okay job, I wasnt exactly blown away by the facilities or the service. Actually, i'd prefer someone to come to me, RAC said they couldn't, but I do wonder whether someone would?

As I work for national windscreens you have really made my day saying that we have provided a really good service - the central number for National Windscreens is 0800 616122 - the direct number for the Watford branch is 01923 219258 - I'm sure Gary will be really chuffed he has been mentioned on a Porsche Forum as well......

I have had more than my fair share of cracked windscreens on various cars including an Elise which requires the front end to come off for the replacement!

Quick tip. Most insurance companies have preferred suppliers / fitters i.e. Autoglass etc. having had a bad experience with one of these mobile come to your drive guys (in fact it took 4 months, letters and a hundred phone calls) before they got it right, bad fit, wind noise etc) I tried to get my insurance company agree to a dealer fit screen. Of course they said no. I then got a quote from the insurance companies preferred fitter and from the dealer. Low and behold an original type screen, main dealer fit turned out cheaper. Not by much but still cheaper. Armed with this info I went back to the insurance company who were more than happy for me to book in to the main dealer and have a proper job done.

I'm sure National Windscreens Watford are consummate pros but like I say with some of these mobile guys it's the luck of the draw on whom you get on the night.

Without blowing National Windscreens (or the other windscreen companies) trumpet - because window fitting is quite specialist now you'll find that main dealers outsource the fitting of glass to.......windscreen companies. Also, the glass we buy is from the same company that makes it for the dealer (ie Securit / Pinkington, etc, etc BUT it hasnt got the dealer badge on it.

Rant over......

well, i called national windscreens.

I have to admit I wasnt blown away by the kid on the phone, when I stated I wanted official manufacter glass, he said he didnt think they could, but it all comes from the same supplier etc.

I'm waiting for the local branch to come back to me, i'll see what they say.

Surprised that you haven't had a call back yet. Can you give me a reg number and tell me where you are please? I will chase with the local branch and would like to know why the delay.
Dealer part should be no problem.
Phil.

Lex I'm not having a pop at windscreen suppliers, in fact it's a pop at the insurance companies that don't like paying for damage they insure against on a like for like basis. Like you said in another thread I have suspicions that some places tell you you're getting the original screen and once it's fitted the tint in the glass makes you think you're driving through Oz...
