I'm part of a team shooting the Beltane celebrations at the end of the month in Edinburgh and we had a practice last night with Firepoint, the team who do all the poi, batons etc and fire demonstrations, so we could get an idea how how to shoot it at night. Tricky stuff to shoot, but great fun.

Beltane is 30th April if anyone is in the area - Calton Hill, Edinburgh.

Only for the ned who came staggering up and asked for "a go - it's easy, I've been doing it for years" before taking a swig of his buckfast

Whirling fire poi is quite an effective technique for saying "no"

We didn't actually coordinate this but the two teams (firepoint and photopoint) seemed to gel quite well. We'd approach to a certain point, kneel, lie, whatever, then they would come to us as they were the ones in control of the fire and more accustomed to the behavious of the poi & batons. Was..."interesting" when I was using the 10-20

Nice! Scary stuff though! No risk of flaming bits/gel coming off at you? I'd use a filter and would avoid that nylon shellsuit just in case!

I like the B&W one best too. Personally I think the flash on the ground is too intrusive in the others (I assume it is flash due to the colour). Maybe reduce it a couple of stops and possibly filter to the same colour as the flames?
