The serp introduction was very sporadic - depended on what was around at the time but they started to appear early 94 ish approximately. These cars usually had the LT77 boxes as the T5 started to come in later. It is almost impossible to say with any accuracy that a 93/94/95 car will be a serp/T5 as there are a few exceptions to the rule out there including some serp cars that do not have the poly Vee belt!

Nope - not a serp.

You can recognise it by a flat drive belt (not the V belt in the picture)..

Maybe he just does not know his onions..

But don't let that put you off the car..

presumably the engine internals are to serp spec, but retaining the original type outer drive pulleys .. can't say i've ever seen one though so must be very rare if they exist.

He's got a pre-serp there. It has a pre-serp front cover, and therefore doesn't benefit from the better oil pump or cooling sytem with seperate expansion tank.My guess is that it was built in late 1994 or early 1995.Lovely looking Griffthumbup

On the plus side - at least the water pump runs the right way of this car .. not backwards like the serp (see the belt runs around the bottom of the water pump pulley). Who's dumb idea was that..

Is that the case on all serps then? Does the water circulate the other way? How does that work?

The design of the front cover and pumps are different, the water pump rotates the other way, direction of water flow through the engine is the same.

as the 4ltr are basically standard landrover I expect they were the first to swap over to serp. with the 5ltrs being modified by TVR i expect they had stock of pre serp 5ltr. So i dont think there is anything wrong with a newer 5ltr having a pre serp and an older 4ltr being serp. That would also concur with the box being T5..

although its TVR so it could be any thing hehe
