The time had come to give the 911 a damn good clean up for the Spring.

As it happened, Costco were selling off rotary polishers for £15 sheets.

So, armed with a bottle of AutoGlym Ultimate Deep Shine (for dark metallics) and my new acquisition – I set to work.

I have to say that I am AMAZED by the results. All of the fine scratches have come out and the car looks like new!! It only took half an hour to put the wax on and fourty minutes to remove it!!

Get yourselves down there and get one – well worth it.

The only downside is that I can’t feel my arms…..

Got some. Carbon.

I thought it was very disappointing. £20 buys you a virtually unused tub, mate.

Unfortunately you won't do anything useful with one of those.

They're adequate for applying polish/wax and saving your arms but they have no power and no ability to any defect removal, for that you need a "proper" polisher like a rotary or a random orbital.

The CostCo one is a random orbital, my sun.

I have one in my garage like the aldi one which is a random orbital. Anyone is welcome to it for £5 plus post or collect from Yorkshire.

As said above those types and mine included are ok for applying polish, but useless for really bringing the surface down, but I would not recomend anyone new to it to use a professional polisher as unless you are very careful it will burn the paint.

I spent the weekend polishing mine with a big rotary I bought a long time ago for a lot more than £15, and I am over the moon with the results, but my paint needed bringing back from the dead!

I agree. I wouldn't suggest that anyone should use a rotary without any prior knowledge of using one. A random orbital would be far, far safer to use and will still get great results (albeit not as good at paint correction).

basically the difference with orbital to rotary is both will do the same job but the orbital will take longer, however it is also gentler, so for someone who needs it for work a rotary is good as I can fetch paint down quickly and efficiently, but for the home user who uses it once a year if lucky a random orbital is the best.

A good quality is a porter and cable, worth the investment if you are going to use it enough, the little £5-15 jobs are ok but useless at correction. Hence why someone gave me the brand new one I have been tripping up over for a year!

Sorry mate, it's only filling in the swirl marks not removing them. Go out in the morning with a bucket of Fairy Liquid and warm water and your swirl marks will reappear.

On Porsche paint (hard) you'll need a decent rotary or a Porter Cable and something like one of the Cerami-Coat compatible Menzerna products and spend hours deswirling.

Or, buy a silver car, get it washed once a week at drive through hand wash, and spend those 'deswirling hours' driving the car on twisty roads....

I treated my 993C2S to the full Swissol workup over the weekend. Bath, clay bar, cleaning solution and Zuffenhausen wax. Used my manually operated random orbital biomachine (read 'arms'). Car looks great, however after dropping my coffe cup into my cornflakes this morning I could hardly steer my car to work. Must use that gym membership.....
