I'm sure this has been asked a few times, but I didn't find much in a search....
I've just bought my first Porsche

However I've now come to insure it so I can collect it next week and the quotes I've got are £1600 and above yikes

Is this right???

Its a C4S 2003 completely standard (no tracker), I'm 39 with 3 points (SP30) and another SP30 4 years ago.. I've got full no claims and never made a claim etc.

Feeling a bit sick now, just wondering if anyone in a similar position and what you pay!! NB not tried the specialists yet 'cause its Sunday and they're closed, so thought I'd ask here...

Hi Ian - just bought my first (997 C2S) and went to A-Plan as suggested on here... similar circumstances to yours with 2 SP30's they did it for under £900... about £500 cheaper than all the other quotes I had!

Give them a call tomorrow

If you are not going to track the car, Direct Line are really cheap for Porsches. I used them for years but use Heritage now as they cover for tracks.

Yeah so was I, which started leaving me feeling a bit sick, the chap said that they wern't so competitive for high performance cars and SP30's.
NB I need business use on it as well, but I can't think why they were so bad.

Think I'll try A Plan and a few others tomorrow.
Are there any places that could give me a good quote if I join the Porsche Club GB??

Try A Manning Ltd on 01491 578 759. Specialise in Porsche insurance and give free track day cover as well. Quoted me just over a grand for my GT3RS (over 50 (just), clean licence but with mileage limited to 5k pa) most other quotes were well over double that.

Do shop around. My current insurer (but not for much lnger) wanted 1323. Found quotes as low as 348 (Swiftcover, but no european cover, no protected ncb and 1000 excess). Will be going with Norwich Onion next week - they quoted 530 with all the trimmings. full ncb, one at fault accident, no convictions, ipswich postcode ...

Try www.Confused.com . In my case, as the Porsche is a second car I called my current insurer (MoreThan) who were able to mirror my max no claims from my everyday car to the TT, resulting in a premium of £550 fully comp.

Admiral offered me insurance at £1600 on a new 997S based in Central London. However, they insisted that I could not choose the garage or repairer in the event of making a claim. On that basis I went with Zurich but paid a lot more and got a much more flexible policy.

The insurers can`t make you decide where to take your car - provided an engineer appproves the estimate as reasonable you can have it repaired anywhere. I used to work for Admiral and had a claim with them also - my car went to the Porsche approved bodyshop, no quibbles

For insurance - try moneysupermarket.com - confused.com is admiral`s search engine and focuses on the Admiral group first i.e Elephant, Bell, Admrial, Diamond(if you are a girl/lady boy) and you will pay a fee for the results. With moneysupermarket you don`t.

I am with Tesco, (who is really Direct Line?), but I am paying £1150 full comp on my 997S - and i`m under 30. Just shop around and try the odd brokers - but in general, going direct ot an insurer on line and paying in full will save you the most money. Most people I know in your position pay under £1000 so you should be able to get a good deal somewhere.

Not sure if it is relevant anymore, but when I used to work for an insurer, their rates used to drop at the end of the month to make sure that they sold enough policies; the premium wasn`t the main concern. I have always found my premium to be cheaper at the end of the month when looking for quotes, but perhaps that could be coincidence ..? Good luck.
