Bag of nerves at the moment off to scotland in the morning to pick up the new car a 996tt , last time i saw it it was in bits having the nose paint job done .
I have been reading some threads and picked up mention of checking the ecu for type 1 and 2 over rev , i did mention this when i was up there last weekend but they said they did not check as a matter of course, should i insist this is checked , what do i do if there is evidence it has been over reve'd , do i walk away .

iirc you are buying from an opc yes? if you are then get them to check it but i wouldnt worry too much
just get the car and bloody enjoy the drive home. you will have trouble removing the smile off your face for months
oh and dont forget to post some pics
This is double the value of the last car i bought , so paranoia is setting in at the moment . So please make allowance's for me panicking .
I just hpi'd it and its showing finance outstanding as well,i's at a opc , but its another thing i need to sort out. It's probably just that someone has not updated the system.
Ref the over rev , picked it up on one or two post's on here and on the us forums.

Hi Keith
The over rev limit 2 is the mechanicla over rev counter if its tiptronic its very rare you would see a over rev value in limit 2 if its manual and its been hammered beyond its life then it will have some in there and also a time when it happened an hour clock timer so if total running hours of ecu was 1000 and rev range 2 had picked up a over rev at 999 or 1000 hours last possible it was thrashed before opc got it or technician has had some fun with it.
I check every single vehicle that comes through my workshop for this to see what the number of cars are out there with numbers in this rev 2 limit and probably 50% have numbers in there, its when the numbers are large then you need to worry.....1 number for every time it has fired a cylinder so if its hundreds its been abused.
Arguments sake it goes bang when you buy it in 3 months warranty could argue its been over revved no engine replacement.
They should check this value its under DME (engine management) and then under vehicle data..scroll down and its the 3rd value i think rev 2 ....
hope this helps.
