Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo/Peugeot 107 - Which Is Best?

As in the title really. Apart from bodywork differences, and minor specification differences between the three of them, which one would you guys (and gals) recommend? My bro's about to sit the dreaded test, and I believe that either one of these cars would fit the bill as a first-time buy - so obviously, the lower the cost, the better.
Also, are there any deals nationwide on either of the cars which I should know about?
And a question to owners - what are they like to run? What do they cost to service?

all same car fundamentally.
on paper citroen is the cheapest, in reality peugeot dealer will offer better deals
if he wants a base 3 door then pug are doing a base spec deal for circa £5400 new at present
we wanted air con and 5 doors and got 20% off a 107 which made it our best option
Insurance is £99 a year, road tax £35, mpg over 60 - drives well and is fun albeit in a 68bhp way

what i thought - but if its £1500-£2000 more to start with then better depreciation is never going to offset this
looks wise the c1 is sharpest, with big mouthed 107 in the middle, and oap special aygo in 3rd place

A friend of mine has just got an Aygo for his wife. It's a sport model (whatever that means with no horsepower!) and I have to say that I really enjoyed having a go in it.
The handling was a bit roly-poly, but it made a superb noise, actually quite surprisingly good. It is pretty nippy and it returns pretty amazing mileage, but then I guess all three will be the same on that front.
I personally couldn't live with any of them, since they all seem to be made of tracing paper, but for a first car it would be superb. (A darn sight better than the Maestro I had to put up with....!)

the three pot sounds like half an old 911 engine
agreed on the comments regarding tracing paper, but its Toyota designed and all japs cars have that feel without being any less robust - in truth its just well designed to keep weight down

The Aygo looks best, has the best dealers and the best residuals
The Citroen has the cheapest list price
The Peugeot is ugly
I'd have a Panda personally (in fact, I do have one...) because the interior is nicer, the car is better equipped and it has more space inside. The seats are more comfy and you can have a base mode for under £5k which has electric windows and 5 doors, plus if you stick some roof rails on it the Panda looks cool in a mini-4x4 kind of way, especially with a muddy mountain bike strapped on the bootlid

Apart from the Panda being slower, lower powered, 20% more thirsty, ugly, plus much higher emmissions (therefore doesnt qualify for the £35 annual road tax) and more costly to maintain and service.
On top of all that it is a fiat which means it depreciates (rapidly) and the dealers are largely useless (without stereotyping)
Aygo/107/c1 is much more modern in design and if the changes to c02 based conjestion charging do come in to effect in London next year then they will be very sought after used as it will be charge exempt.

The Peugeot and Citroen is a 2 year manafacturer warranty the last year is a dealer warranty.
The Toyota comes with a full 3 year manafacturer warranty.

I agree. I'm also slightly biased though ;-)
I drive an Aygo as one of my cars. Bit underpowered but does what it says on the tin. I like the engine noise.
Tip; the petrol engine in all three is built by Toyota. The diesel one is by Peugeot... more expensive, less horsepower, and I'll let you decide which will be more reliable. In fact I don't think Peugeot even offer it on sale in the uk!

Partly true, but ours is worth £3,500 at 3 years and 35k miles and has been so reliable it hasn't been to a Fiat dealer since the first service, the 2nd and 3rd have been done at independant garages. I doesn't feel much slower than the Aygo I drove (ours is the 1,2 though) and I'd dispute that the CAy07 is more modern in design, unless your idea of modern design is posting your shopping through a letterbox into the boot, bare painted metal interior trim and having to lean across the car to open the passenger window. The packagng on the Panda is a lot better and I think it's more refined to drive too.

if theres one thing the french can do... thats build a decent diesel engine.
but then one paper in a test of driving round the M25 got the claimed 60 odd mpg out of the diesel, and 83mpg out of the petrol engine (think it was either the Citroen C1 or C2 on that test)
