Guys, I'm planning a driving holiday to europe in late May and am planning on stopping by in Zuffenhausen to visit the Porsche museum and hopefully do a factory tour. Do I need to book the tour in advance or just turn up on the day? Are they open on weekends? Are they closed on certain week days? Anything else to look out for? Free test drive of a Carerra GT perhaps?

Don't know about the factory tour but I just turned up to have a look around the museum whilst I was waiting to catch the motorail train from Stuttgart to Avignon (the Autozug terminal is quite near Zuffenhausen if I recall correctly - this was 7 years ago mind!) It is a very small museum indeed (when you see a photo of it, bear in mind in most images you can see the whole museum - its only 2 cars lengths wide), though they are building a bigger one at the moment so they can show more of their cars (which they have to rotate at the moment). I'd wait until they finish the new one to be honest!
Having said that, there is what I felt is a wonderful car museum just east of Munich in Amerang. It has some great Porsches as well as interesting BMWs and great early Benzes. Found it funny that it had much better BMW exhibits than the then rubbish BMW museum! (mind they're refurbing that too apparently, might have finished by now too).
