I live on a new housing estate and the council have got the builders to dig up the tarmac on the pavement leading from my drive onto our close.

They have done so without informing myself or any of the neighbours. So when backing the Sag out of the garage and onto the road ( v slowly ) the front catches on the small ridge theyve left and marks the front splitter, and now i cant get it back on the drive to put in the garage. Ive phoned them but theyve said id have to leave it out all night - no chance and i also told him that i would be putting a claim in against them.

Do you think id be within my rights to claim and how would i best go about this if possible - ive taken photos of the road works and the mark its left on the car.

Cheers

Nick

A mate of mine chipped one of the alloys on his Masser Gransport(lick) in a pot hole. He photographed the hole, the damage, obtained a repair quote from his garage and sent them off to the council threatening legal action.

He received a cheque to the full value of the quote shortly afterwards...

Hope yours goes as well as that

Try backing the Sag into the garage. Should stop the scraping and much safer too.

Couple of planks of wood aligned to wheels to drive over? Mate of mine used to do this regularly for overzealous speed humps near his property when driving his Lotus Esprit years ago!!

My Cerb catches the front / back so I built a couple of ramps out of old pallets. I keep 'em handy and then I can back straight on / off with no problems, the light weight stops the car from breaking the ramps

I would try and claim the damage from the council through the threat of legal action though. You might get somewhere, ya never know.

I think more to the point is that the numpties have effectively stopped you accessing your own property!

I'd be on the phone every 15 mins until they come round and rectify it.

and make sure you claim for the damge too as others have said.

We all complain at the state of the roads, and when the council addresses this, we complain again.

Isn't the real issue NOT that they're actually doing some work, but that they didn't inform you about it and so left you with no time to plan around it? Surely that ought to be your first line of attack if you wish to claim against them.

try looking at www.potholes.co.uk it was on the PH news yesterday, maybe if its a new estate it may be private land belonging to the developer though, but still worth a look

Make a ramp out of sand or something similar just to get the Saggy in the drive, then get on the phone to the council sharpish and give them the price of the splitter, that should shake them up.
I'll look after it if you want if it won't go in the drive.

working for a company that ocasionaly repairs roads......

either attack the council for the money, or the actual company undertaking the work....

we have numerous claims each time we do this type of work.... albeit most after investigation are try ons the genuine are paid out as good will to prevent bad publicity in the eye of the council so that follow works can be gained.

shhhhh I never said the above

Unfortunately i think its lower than that, its the fact that my drive slopes downward towards the pavement / road obviously compounding the issue
