I have a 6 week old Cayman 2.7 with standard alloys. The wheelnuts including the locking nuts have all discoloured and showing signs of rust. Has anyone else noticed this on new Caymans or Boxsters?

It's a common fault. I know of one OPC who has a large plastic bucket of wheel bolts which they use as warranty replacements. It isn't long before the 2nd set rust either though. You can either get wheel bolt caps on ebay, ask your dealer to replace them under warranty or paint them with some silver Hammerite.

Yep, very common.

I've heard recently that some OPCs are now refusing to replace them under warrenty. Aparantly that is a "feature" of the nuts

It's a feature supposedly fairly unique to the UK due to the amount of salt we use on our roads

It also pays to be careful with the wheel cleaning products you use - avoid acid based cleaners, which can also lead to rusting on the wheel hubs. During the winter it's worth taking each bolt out and using a wax spray on it, which can be cleaned off once the salting of roads ends. You can also get stainless steel bolts from Designtek, which look good - though they are quite costly.
