the tt needs a major service - i've contacted both my local opc and the dealer i bought it from and prices are almost exactly the same £1038 exlcuding a couple of suggested parts.

However:-
my local opc have offered to collect and drop off the car but when i was looking for a tt the sales dept did not want to know and gave me crap service...

The suppling OPC is 1.5 hours or so drive / cannot collect / have offered me a loan car but have given me great service up till now.

it's a 3 day service inc. plugs so i cannot wait in the dealership which was my first thought. Also all the stamps in the book so far are from the suppling OPC but can't see other then being anal that it's a problem..

what would you do? take the easy option or use the suppling opc?

thanks
Rick

Find a good Independent as they're cheaper and the mechanics generally take more care due to no time scale/bonus factor as with the OPC's. The majority of Independent's are enthusiast's, thus more knowledgable and keen to impress for repeat business IMO.

As long as the Independent uses OEM Porsche Parts the warranty is not effected.

Correct.

The EU block exepmtion means you no longer have to have the servicing done at OPC, but you will get a MUCH more sympathetic ear if something goes wrong.

In my experience, as long as you stick to the menu service for the menu price and don't fall for the new discs and pads scam (they are it seems made from chocolate) then you are fine.

I just had the 96k done for £650 at OPC West London. No complaints at all and I got warranty work done (which I didn't even realise needed doing) too with no complaint.

I'd go OPC, but manage them with care. And be POLITE.

I took mine to Tonbridge OPC and they were very good(2nd time actually without a disaster)just make sure they dont do anything thats not stipulated in the 'normal' price. If you make that obvious right from the start you wont end up with a 60 quid pair of wiper blades.

Go for an Indy.

Not sure where in the world you are but Zentrum in Notts quoted me about (sorry can't remember the exact figure) £760 for a full service on a TT.
Includes spark plugs, fuel filter and the poly rib belt (the poly rib belt is not included in the OPCs quote of £1038).

Completely agree with the comments about the indys being more enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the cars. I get the impression that the OPC mechanics could not careless whether they were working on a Carrera GT or a 1.0l Fiesta.

You will find a lot of indys are ex-OPC mechanics anyway. And who do you think is going to do a better job: the mechanic who gets his paycheck no matter what he does all day long and if something goes wrong can hide behind the insurance policy of a major manufacturer like Porsche, or Mr Indy who if he does a bad job loses reputation, customer and essentially his own business???

guys,

really want to stay with an opc - my main question was do i go easy route and use the local opc but they gave me crap service or make two trips upto the other opc. I have no experience of either's service dept so am basing this purely on my dealing with both sales depts.

is £1038 about right for a 4 year service on a TT? it's only done 26k but it's the whole 4years old plus spark plugs that boosts the cost or so i'm told.

thanks.

I'd go to the supplying OPC, you get to drive around in a courtesy car and they will know you chose them over your local one, so they will continue to give great service.

That price is right, the spark plugs are the main culprit!

I took my car to a tonbride OPC and three years later I still want to drive a tank through their showroom such was the utter crap service they gave not only me but more importantly the car! Literally left with more problems than I came in with, broke down 1 day later. User Parr ever since.
Kent OPC = Utter utter w8nkers.

In that case agreed. Go do the drive to the supplying OPC. If anyone gives you crap service ever, do not go back. Especially for something as major as the 48k on a TT. That is a whole heap of money.

Make sure you ask about the auxiliary drive belt though. Might be worth doing on top of the £1038 for your 48k service.

IIRC the belt is listed as being £17 with a service.

I guess at the end of the day, it is the same as with anything.
You get bad service, you do not go back. Whether you spend £1 or £1mill.

Good luck fella.

yes

You already have a good relationship with the supplying dealer so they will want to ensure they keep it going. Near OPC have no reason to take special care of you - you are just a guy off the street with a tt .
If their company culture is such that sales can't be arsed with customers why should service be any different?
