Having just bought my 1991 944S2 I have simply no idea what type of engine oil I need to put in, does anyone have any recommendations, is any one oil better than another? and, if you are doing a complete oil change is it the same as for top ups? Honest John in the D. Telegraph says specialist oil is cheaper to buy in France, and we are going there soon, so could get some. HELP PLEASE!!

10w 40 is the recommended grade, use as high a quality oil as you can: Castrol, Mobil etc.

The change interval for the 944 is 12000 miles - or annually - with a filter, If the car is new to you, an oil change for 'peace of mind' wouldn't be inappropriate.

I use Silkolene Pro S 5/40, after much research this was deemed to be the best stuff for my 968. I assume this would also be the case for yours as the same lump!

About £80 for 2 bottles delivered.

Mobil one but the 15w/50 motorsport grade. Far less chance of oil leaks
