With the recent tragic death of Eric Medlen which has saddened us all. Will John Force and his wife now seriously be thinking about discouraging their daughter Ashley from driving her Nitro Funny Car, or will they leave that decision to Ashley?
Possibly the dumbest thing i've ever heard anyone say about racing in my entire life. Are you possibly the biggest sexist pig i've ever seen in my entire life? I'm beginning to think that.
She's not going to turn around and say to her dad "Oh people can die in these cars?!... I never knew that!"
She knows the responsibilities and she knows the risks of driving race cars, like any other race driver we take it into our own hands and if the shit hits the fan, then the shit hits the fan. That's why liability waivers were introduced.

True story. Ashley has made it clear on more than one occasion that being in that hot seat was her choice, and I think John would be just as likely to stop Robert Hight (the father of his Grandchild) racing as he would be Ashley. At the end of the day, what happened to Eric Medlen is tragic, just as it was when Shelly Howard, Darrell Russel, Blaine Johnson and many more passed away doing what they loved. Unfortunately, putting your life on the line is one of the things each and every driver knows and accepts before making a pass, regardless of age, sex or class.
It'll be interesting to see what the outcome to all this is with the safety side though. If you look on Nitromater.com, NHRA announcer/interviewer Alan Reinhart has made a very informative post regarding the incident. There aren't too many details, other than the fact that people shouldn't be so quick to blame the tyre and that Austin Coil has instructed all 3 other crew chiefs to inspect something on their cars.

l've been a Registered Nurse for 35 years, and the majority of my friends are female nurses. l worked in an ICU for five years so l've seen more than my share of tragic deaths.
This tragedy certainly can't help her confidence.

None of that is in doubt, but why would she be treated any different than any other FC driver? Force himself will be having the same thoughts, as will all others within the drag racing community. To suggest that in some way it means Ashley shouldn't drive any more while it is OK for others to carry on is patronising and condescending, not to mention insensitive to the Medlen family.

Thank you, i was going to put something along those lines. Being female myself and with a dream to race one day... i am insulted by the view of Nitromaniac. Ashley should be able make her own decisions which i am sure she does.
John is a passionate but rambling old truck driver (no offence to JF but I'm sure he'd agree its true) who luckily has surrounded himself with good people and Ashley is an intelligent, astute, and well-informed young woman...
Now who's decisions should you worry about?
The sort of opinions expressed above by Mr Hutchinson died with the ark. Makes you wonder what sort of people need to write this sort of rubbish just to make themselves feel more worthy. Nice to see Mr H stirring it up again too...

Well, I don´t see any offence against female driver in this post, it´s about parents and if they will let their kid race a nitro monster, daugther or son.
I´ve been in dragracing for over twenty years and when you see someone crashes bad there is no word to describe the bad feelings going trough your body and if it´s a close friend it`s even worse.
To read about a crash can not be compared to see it live.
I think loosing a close friend can make racers to think more about the risk than they did before.

I see what you mean, however this thread is a continuation of another which was leaning towards the more sexist route... (correct me if i am wrong, by the same thread starter)
If i could find the link, i would provide it.
I feel there was no reason to dig the whole topic up again however.

I have no kids but I understand John Force on the last part in this interview.
