Is it just me or are lots of traffic lights at junctions completely pointless or badly set up. Round my way(Macclesfield) a set at a crossroads was out for two days and i saved so much time (I deliver pizzas btw and go through it at least ten times a night). There were no accidents or big queues just people making there way and being careful.
Another set at a T junction allow traffic on the main road 140 seconds and then 8 seconds (sorry i'm sad enough to time them) for the side road even though the traffic volumes in the evening are roughly the same. This is bloody annoying time after time. Its annoying for the people whose pizzas get cold as well!

Just one more thing then rant over. Stupid, unnecesary, money wasting, time wasting annoying, dangerous roadworks. A so called "junction improvement" in Tytherington (Near Macclesfield) is simply to dig up the old one put in fresh kerbs etc. and this has been going on for 4 weeks. Its not even nearly finished yet! The company doing the "work" is called Bethell, as they proudly advertise, so don't get them to Tarmac your drive. while all this is going on traffic is reduce to one lane the lights are all red at the same time for over a minute consequenntly its now a no go road so most traffic takes a detour through a housing estate.

Macclesfield borough council really are doing a good job!

Sorry rant now over. 4 now...

Matt

When I was a kid I had a play road set, it had pieces of road, junctions, road signs (including road works), traffic lights,But no Gatsos (wernt invented in 1978ish)

As a 8 year old, I used to throw all these bits together on the living room floor and push Dinkys finest up and down my the new transport network I'd just designed.

I think the local council(s) employs the same design technique today

Agree, this pisses me off no end.

They "upgraded" M6 J1 to add lights. I am sick of coming home late evening, bimbling off the slip road all by myself, trundling up to the lights, only to have them go red as I arrive. No-one else on the roundabout at all, I sit there for 2 mins until they change, then off I go, just in time to catch the friggin lights at the other side of the roundabout.

On several occasions also these lights have been stuck on red at the top of the slip road, causing tailbacks down the sliproad.

I really annoys me , I have been using this junction for 10 years day in day out, and have never ever seen any traffic problems that would justify the installation of the lights. What a waste of money, and what a waste of motorists time.

Needless to say I use my judgement when approaching these lights at night - I have eyes, I have been able to negotiate this roundabout safely for 10 years.

Nice one Dave

If you wnat to see lots of stupid traffic lights come visit Leicester. I think the council bought a job lot on the cheap they are everywhere. On a main road into town there is a traffic light every 100 yards (no I'm not exagerating) It's called Melton Road.

Someone told me that it was in the Guiness book of records for the "highest concentration of traffic lights" but this just may be "pub bull"

I visited Leicester once. Drove down a road apparently known locally as the 'Khyber pass'.

Rather dodgy part of town. The 'Locals' looked at my motor like it was from another planet. I looked at them as though I was in another country..... Lots of good curry houses though

It's just as nuts around London. A duel carrageway (The Uxbridge Road)that I have to use has doubled the amount of traffic lights since I've been driving (1987)

When I'm in pedestrian mode I don't feel the need for all these.

And roadworks?, has anyone ever rung the Cones Hotline and asked about more information on cones? No, we just bring them home with us after a night at the pub dont we?

Don't we?

What I really appreciate is Traffic Lights ON roundabouts.. not at the entrance so that cars can actually go round in some semblance of order, but on the F**king things....

Just as you have finally made it to the exit you want without having hit the 3 people who have tried to change lanes on the roundabout but couldn`t cause there were cars in the way (patiently waiting for the lights to change ) , there is Another f***ing set of lights in the form of a pedestrian crossing.. Council workers who plan/approve these ought to be shot.
