In the search for my ideal 911, I'm thinking I like the Sat Nav, not so much that I want the Sat Nav, but I prefer the look of the centre console with it!
I know this sounds shallow, but looks are important
However, 1 PH mentioned that the PSE (or whatever the Sat Nav is called) isn't supported anymore (I'm looking around a 2002 996) what impact is that going to have? Obviously the maps might be out of date, but is there any way you can get updated maps for it? How are people going to think of an outdated Sat Nav in 5 years time???
I guess I'm asking....
Would you want Sat Nav?
If so, would you pay any extra for it? and how much extra?

No, no, and nothing in that order.

Sat Nav systems are always improving.

The original PCM1 was pretty poor and, as you say, not supported with updates. PCM2, after Sept 2002, was better and the latest system, with TMC, is actually quite good.

Earlier cars are probably better with an after market system. Becker do various integrated models.

PCM2 can be recognised by having a single cd slot integrated within it. PCM1 has a cassette slot. PCM2 is not the most fully featured sat nav available at all but works perfectly well for me and I have had merc and audi systems. At the end of the day, it gets you from A to B and that is the point isn't it ? It also will assist with resale although this will diminish with time as technology marches on and systems keep evolving. Far easier to sell car with, than without, I believe. Aftermarket systems look sh*t in my opinion. Hate this sort of thing stuck on dashboards/screens etc. Totally Mondeo man....soapbox

Thanks for that, I'm slowly getting an idea of what I want.
Thing is I like the look of the PCM (or PCM2) - I know I wouldn't use the Sat Nav much, but then its also the audio centre as well and I just think its looks nicer.
Can you get up to date maps for the PCM2 then?

Although its very easiy to fit an after market system that integrates into the dash. Gives the advantage of a hi-tech system, easy to update, and way more advanced than the factory fit stuff
