TVR Red Rose arguement
Discussion
Please Please Please help me ASAP.
Being bored at work I decided to proavctively use my professional position and abuse the company's email policy. To relieve my boredom I foolishly started an email conversation with a friend regarding the above. I have one he doesnt he is jealous so tries to tell me that mine is not a Red Rose. I have the origanal sale paperwork from new confirming its a red rose and also my car has red rose written in that blissful invention...marker pen on the engine. As far as I am concerned thats it end of arguement brownie points to me!
....but no he wouldnt let it lie. He says he has proof that the red rose models had RR on the back and red rose written on an internal plaque. I have never in all my years heard of this but he is adamant and has stated that he has the proof at his desk in the form of a well known motoring magazine review and is in the process of scanning and emailing to me. Whilst I still stand by what I think I know I would like some reassurance.
I have read other Red Rose discussions on the forum which is fueling my believes but if there are differing opinions I would love to know ASAP.

I've never seen either of those items mentioned by your friend, so muct have been an early press car he's seen in the mag with a bit of bling for the photographer that never made it to production cars.
marker pen and original invoice are good, though you might be surprised how few changes are made to get to red rose spec

You are correct yours is an original Red Rose, your friend is wrong I have never heard of the bits he mentioned.
Red Rose pack consisted of:
18" Spider wheels.
Bigger brakes with alloy front bells.
Firmer adjustable suspension.
Engine built to RR spec which became S spec (but the S's got bigger bore exhausts)
with of course the marker pen on the fuel rail
and...that's it!!
All for £4200.00.
Some cars are advertised as RR as they have had the engines rebuilt to supposed RR/S spec over the years, but as you say, unless you have the proof of build as a original factory RR, it's not a genuine Red Rose.

Also the spoiler was that part of the Red Rose pack as standard? Havent heard of that before.
Thanks for your help people. With regards the 'R' after Tuscan, was that not for the limited Tuscan R that eventually became the Tuscan 440R?

No the spoiler was introduced for the S model.
The S model had all the RR bits, plus larger bore exhaust, A/C as standard, colour coded boot carpet, and front splitter and rear spoiler.
The rear badge on the RR said Tuscan. The rear badge on the S said S.
Their was no Tuscan badged R, until the Tuscan 400/440R/typhon shape and as far as I know no cars left with a Tuscan R badge in that shape.

He doesnt have a tuscan he has a highly modded Nissan Sunny GTiR (The one that looks like it lost a fight with a Halfords delivery truck!). However we have agreed to a race when he gets his Jap Cr4p working again!!!!
i raced a new EVO FQ 340 MR on a quarter mile as he was convinced it would give me a good go in my standard T350,same bhp but tvr 12.6 - evo 14.3
jap crap would be the correct phrase!
Thank you for all your help you have convinced me that I am right.....unfortunately the little scrap of evidence he is holding onto is a little tit bit of info in the back of a magazine which states that the 4.0l tuscan had 350 bhp. Thats is it nada about the Red Rose package. I have tried to explain it to him... I have even used little words and pretty drawings but bless his little cotton socks he just wont believe it. Never mind I guess this one will keep going.... Once again thanks for all your input!!!
The only visual on my factory RR Tamora is bigger bore exhaust system and bigger discs.I did get the vehicle specification information sheet from the factory and listed under extras was Red Rose Package I was also told there were only 5 Tamora RR factory cars built can anyone confirm.

Yep I have one, I know of two others.
Hi all,
I am the friend that tuscanator is on about and I just happened to come across this post regarding me and my friends discussion on his tuscan.
First of all I think that he is being very arrogant about me being jelous about him having a tuscan as I had a TVR before he could even spell it and the only reason he got one was because I did. Though I may add that my TVR was used all the time in all weathers whereas his is kept in the garage or on the drive and only taken out when it is sunny and dry (to give you the different persectives of owners here).
We were debating the different types of tuscan avilable as there are a number of different varients, engine sizes and power outputs, he refused to believe me so yes I sent scans from several car magazines confiming this, we were also debating the content of the red rose pack which includes:
18" wheels
Larger brakes and calipers
Adjustable suspension
Thicker antiroll bars
Later the engine upgrades were done by TVR Power which included: bigger injectors, ported head, improved valves, skimmed head, polished crank, re-honed block and balanced rods and pistons. I believe that these engine upgrades were done as part of a later red rose pack and not the original few.
Yes I also thought that a RR badge was also included but it may have been one of teh aftermarket ones that some chap mentioned in this topic.
I do know a considerable amount about TVR's and was questioning why he though that his tuscan had 380hp and if it did why he did so badly against my GTi-R. His is a 2000 W tuscan and so I believed that it would have been one of the Res Roses that did not have the engine upgrade but did have the rest of the modifications.
With regards to the GTi-R that I have its bhp/ton is around 355 which is higher than the tuscans of approx 323, it weighs practically nothing, is 4wd and has lots of power and it is quicker in a straight line that his tuscan to about 135mph - over that the Tuscan shades it as it is more aerodynamic but that is to be expected.
I have said that we should go to a rolling road to have a look at the power output (amd mabey convince him to go for a GEMS ecu!)
I just though that I would put the other side of the arguement in as it appeared that he was making me look like an unreasonable ill informed t0sser - which I am not.
Cheers

Didn't it have matching carpet in the boot too? (Seriously)
Yes it did!
The major give away are the brake discs from an appearence point of view, you will know that they are Red Rose spec when it comes to replacing them!
I was unsure when i was buying mine as their seemed little info available about Red Rose spec at the time.
However i spoke to the original dealer who sold the car from new and he confirmed in writing that it was purchased with Red Rose spec.
When a dealer orders from TVR an order sheet is processed with all the relevent spec & prices you should be able to get a copy of this from the original selling dealer.
Look in your service manual and hopefully it will have the dealers stamp, if not then just try the dealer which carried out the first 1000 mile service as its a good chance it was the same dealer.
1st service is useally free from from the selling dealer.
