CDR23 IN OLDER 911
Discussion
Hi all
I am begining to think I made a bit of a mistake (or I was conned into making one) I recently purchased a Becker CDR23 on Ebay questioned the seller about the compatability with this unit and my 1986 Porsche 911 3.2 Coupe. I was told there were no problems with the installation, the unit was sent to me without the requested decode card I requested. Now reading the info here I am begining to get the idea that this CDR23 will never work in my car in a month of Sunday's am I reading this right fella's or is there some way to get this model working that I have so far been unable to find on the internet. I decided if I want an answer to ask those people most likely to know so here I am. Any help will be very appreciated as I only just took delivery of the item so am still in a position to get a PAYPAL refund if nesc. Looking forward to all of your comments. I am sure more than a few of them will start with "well that was a stupid mistake lol".

The CDR23 has a fibre optic port for sound / data stream, it also has on board diagnostics which include chassis number recognition as opposed to a conventional 'code card' - the unit is fed info via the system tester to fire it up initially, annd depending on the vehicle spec that the unit came from it may not have an on board amplifier - therefore no sound....
Put simply, the CDR23 will never work in a 3.2 carrera.

Had the same idea for mine, but checked it out with a guy from California who upgrades Porsche ICE.
I thought they may work with the pre-outs.
Glad I checked first.
Itll never work Buddy.
CDR23 has MOST bus optics, not copper.
E bay sellers always stick in the codicil check model etc.
CR or CDR22's what you want.
Good luck
