Is Red The New Black ?
Discussion
I've been looking at a few Porsche and starting to see red and white ones do a come back ... I believe Red was considered parsais after the Yuppies trashed the image (before my time), but I have always thought Porsche looked wonderful in Red, Yellow and White...
So I've seen a 997 in guards red (colour coded wheels n' all) and it looks absolutely glorious, so I guess I am asking for some agreement, so I can go buy without people thinking I'm a tw*t and me getting conscious ..... I'm not a show off, so I'm not looking for the big I am, just love the colour and if I'm going to spend a good amount, its got to be very special.
Also wonder whether resale will be a problem and does red get keyed more...

You should buy the car YOU want to buy. I think logic dictates that the minute you bear off the beaten path of easy-resale (all things relative), you stand to reduce your future resale value/market. However most often, that allows you to buy the car cheaper in the first place yourself (assuming you didn't buy it new). As long as you are aware, and happy with that scenario then go for it

My 997S is Guards Red..I had the wheels done in black with the silver rims.
I have to say it was a choice that just felt right for such a great looking car, I feel it makes an already great shape even better. Some cars look fantastic in red I think the 911 is one of them..sure its a big colour but only in as much as silver is a small colour. Black wheels and Black interior look so good agains the Red of the car, and the Red against the black. Its down to personal choice in the end but if it hits a note for you just do it, I have no regrets what so ever. When its Zymoled it looks outstanding. Red is bold..but so is the 911 so what the hell!!

That made me laugh
I know what you mean, but I like auto's...must be getting old....
Old? Well then think of your hips, man. Think of your hips. Oft forgotten here when bemoaning the manual 'box and praising the fictitious relative merits of a self-shifter, is the exercise to be had from moving a clutch pedal and gearknob 'round the place. It's not just fun, it's good for you. And when the floods come and we're all sprinting for the hills, you'll be that many steps ahead of all the Tip drivers as they flollop along on their flaccid and misshapen legs.

If I get a manual I'll be walking in circles all the time... I know too well the bane of manual drive cars....Just like when I got that Cindy Crawford fitness DVD, my right arm was twice the size of the other after a few weeks....

As far as resale value, I chose to buy a red Boxster as that was my favourite choice and it made me happy. When it was time to sell I found that the vast majority of other cars advertised were either silver or dark blue. So it would probably even out the value considering supply and demand, and I had no problem finding a buyer.
I believe a lot of people tend to refrain from choosing their favourite colours because they take advise on forums etc about what will be the safest bet for resale also considering other peoples preferences, I say you only live once and you should have what does it for you, take a look at some of the colour and interior combinations chosen by TVR buyers,Yes they maybe harder to move on but at least they can look back knowing owned something that was entirely what they wanted.
Even if they must have been totally pi**ed at the time.

I just bought a guards red Boxster S, I think this car carries it better then the 911, but buy what you want to buy. Sod what others think, it's your car, your money so you enjoy it!
As for resale value, if it is cheaper, simple, buy it cheaper, sell it cheaper. If you are buying used, then the car would have taken it's main hit already.
