Well after reading some reviews yesterday afternoon, specifically ones which compared it with the Nikon equivalent, I came home from Jessops this morning, after they price-matched Warehouse Express (to my extreme surprise), with this Sigma

Initial impressions are that it is very sharp (not the best picture for showing that though)! And I love the f2.8! And the macro! A little bit concerned about this though:

Thats a 100% crop of the first picture. What is that purple fringing I can see? Is it CA? Is it anything to be worried about at f8 in that area of the picture?

I can't wait to get out with it and take some shots! looking forward to some snow...

Yes its CA -

www.photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/sigma_1770_2845/index.htm

"Chromatic aberrations (color shadows at harsh contrast transitions) are slightly better than average for a zoom lens in this class. CAs are somewhat pronounced at 17mm peaking in an average width of 1.3 pixels at the image borders. The problem eases significantly when moving towards the long end of the zoom range. "

Looks nice & sharo, check for the focusing issues tho.

Yeah I've heard about Sigmas Quality Control - looks like I've got a good one though

Got a chance to go and try out my new lens on Saturday at Fountains Abbey. It wasn't too bright, so I went back on Sunday when the weather was much better. Here's one I've managed to process this evening (I'm working on speeding my PP up )

Hopefully I'll get chance to put some more up
