.... or not. But these interesting issues always seem to hit me of a Saturday evening when there's no-one here.

Anyway - gist of the post is a chat I had today at my OPC during the course of which was related to me a bit of aggro they're having with a 997 GT3 customer. The customer was very picky about the proposed weight of the GT3 when he was ordering, and in Porsche's specification sheets, the car is described as being 1395 kilos empty, and 1470 kilos at that EU directive weight - which makes no sense anyway, as that directive weight is supposed to include a 68 kilo midget, 90% fuel and 7 kilos of luggage. In any event, this customer collected his GT3, and drove directly from the dealership to have his car weighed and the suspension set up. He was back an hour later trying to reject the car, because it apparently weighed 1470 kilos bone dry.

Any 997 GT3 owners here weighed their cars yet? I know there have been a few engine dynos done, and that the results have been excellent, with around 430 BHP being the norm. But it does strike me that at 1470 kilos, even assuming a generous power output of 430 BHP, the magic 300BHP/Ton seems determined to remain elusive.

Oh...and ...

Cheers, Chris. BTW - Am I going mental, or why is it I had the idea you have or had a GT2?

loach you have a very nice botty!

But reference the 997GT3 & exact weights, I'm certainly not loosing any sleep over it, sounds like someone has read the EVO test & is adding 2+2 & making, ahem coughs gently...... 4 !!!

As I live in the real world & not in lycra & racing boots, I know that a few kilos make very little difference to your rorty pleasures, well that is what the Mrs tells me anyway & as she is often in the car anyway, so with the two of us it isn't wet or dry weight rather over weight, which takes us full circle!!

anyway if the story is true (which I doubt loachy my bot !!!) the dealer will be laughing all the way to the bank, taking current from they will just sell it as second hand at overs!!

hehe Well - the reason I'm in a bit of a tizzy over it is that I've ordered a Lotus GT3, and am a bit nervous that I won't crap all over 911 GT3s when I meet them (edited to add - not so much crap on them as at least have things down to driver ability rather than the usual catch up under braking and at turn in and then bye bye down the straights). I will cancel the Lotus order if it doesn't look as though the thing is going to be ballistic. I'm already ape that my current Exige S weighs in at a ton, and get a bit wound up over weights having owned a few Caterhams. Feck it - I've been on a diet myself for the last few weeks. Porsche's story today was totally unprompted, and given that it was my local German OPC, I doubt they've seen EVO. I certainly didn't see the isse you're referring to - though I definitely want to see it now.

Seriously, there was much head-holding and tutting going on about this customer, and my salesman was mortified by the whole thing - going to the trouble even to take out the official specs and show me the figures and looking for a bit of sympathy and comiseration from me. Frankly, I was kind of delighted, because I can't walk past a 997 GT3 without getting itchy fingers, and am more than delighted to be given any excuse to save myself a fortune. A 964 RS with some choice mods is looking more and more appealing as time goes by.
