Morning All,
Can anyone help…
I am looking for a GT3, I am not apposed to the MK1 or the MK2 so advice would be nice… (Don’t want to start a war)
I have driven the MK1 and Mk2, I found the MK1 rawer, which is not a problem as it will be my weekend toy.
It will be a car I will keep for a few years, so I would think the MK1’s will hold there money better ????
I will not be put off by a Tracked vehicle as long as the history all stacks up.
Colour wise anything is fine but Speed Yellow being last on my list.
Budget wise, up to £44,000 for the right car. I am not interested in a vehicle that has had damage.
Thank you in advance..

If they have been there for months and are still for sale, you may have some bargaining tools!
I bought my MK1 last December privately from a PH ad. I am still extremely happy with the result.

Thanks for the reply,
Could I be rude and ask, what year, spec, mileage and price did you get ?
Thanks

Last December (great time to buy a GT3!) I bought 1999 V reg comfort spec. Had MK2 brake upgrade, clubsport flywheel, short shift kit and cargraphic 100 cell cats/headers. Arctic Silver. 31,000 miles.
Was very, very clean. Though not perfect - ie, two stone chips and the bumper had been resprayed due to stone chips in the past.
I paid less than your current budget. jfrancas @ boltblue.com if you want to know the number.

Goodness me, two stone chips and some cosmetic paintwork and you still went ahead with the sale, brave man!
I'm more pragmatic than most. I've put 11k miles on the car in the first year. It has cost me a £300 service so far. Put it in the gravel at Leipzig, drive it most days and do my grocery shopping in it at ASDA or Sainbury's.
Just had a bad scuff (from bloody speed bumps) touched up on the front. Some Porsche perfectionist wanted £600+ to fully replace the bumber for two 6 inch scuffs. My touch up guy did it for £90. Faultless job.
Its a car. If you want perfect, buy new or look for months and pay top dollar.
If you don't feel comfortable parking it in the street, or driving it in the rain, why bother!!
I bought my GT3 from an OPC in June 06 and I am sure I paid over the odds, though it was the cheapest available and I got a discount and a stunning rate too. It was a 2 owner car that had covered a 'massive' 6,200 miles in 30 months. The car was perfect, smelt and looked like new and there was not a mark on it and I was told it had never been tracked, which the underside, engine bay, tyres and brakes seemed to confirm, though I don't really care. It is still immaculate and in my 9 months of ownership I have added 12,000 miles and 1 track day, I will add many more this year. It went up on the ramp at JZM last year and they too confirmed it did not look tracked and was very straight and clean, a lovely example of the breed was their view.
For me I bought it to use, drive, enjoy and track but I will also keep it in the best possible state of repair. Having said this the car has many minor stone chips there is NOTHING you can do about this when you USE them. I can understand why you don't want to buy a crunched car or one that has spent the vast majority of its time on the track, but there are built to last and if looked after will do just that.
Mine has a full OPC Warranty, for what that is worth, and it will be serviced by my OPC well within its perscribed service intervals. Currently I use it as my day to day car and that will change, but it seems the so many people have these cars for a few months, bail out and moan why they cost so much, or how much they lost.
I will take a bath come resale time but I expect that. I don't care if its has 50K or more on the clock when I sell it because in my view it is money well spent and no more than I expected and who ever buys it will get a lovely car, with a caring and respecting owner, but one who drives it as it was designed to be driven on occasion.
PS. Its NOT for sale

What he said, man after my own heart!
Don't get me wrong.. I will use it (when I find one) 4-5 track days a year and 2-3 Ring' trips...
I don't mind the odd stone chip here and there, but I would rather buy it with a few chips, than paintwork.. At least that way I know what will be under the paint when I have the stonechips done !

resale time??? Mine's a keeper. I think even if I become well off enough for a new one, I can't see why I'd ever sell a MK1

Thanks John,
Did you have her PPI'd ?
Also did you look at MK2's as well ?

PPI'd. They missed a couple of little things to be honest - things that now need replacing. Major one being the heaviness of the clutch. The one I bought was only the second one I'd driven. THe first was 12 months previous, so I'd no memory of how heavy or light the clutch should be. My clutch is ridiculously heavy. It will be at (M in the next couple of weeks for its new clutch.
I didn't look at MK2s as I could not justify the cost. Mine was VERY LOW 40s. MK2s were in the 50s in December 2005.
I bought a Mark 1 a year ago, paid 43500 from a dealer with 23000 miles on it , year 2000 car
I use it every day that I'm not on the bike
I got it checked with the local OPC and warranted by Porsche, with the garage who sold it correcting everything picked up bu the 111 point check
Can't imagine why I'd sell it. I've had a mark 1, a mark 2 , then a mark 1 again. I prefer the look of the Mark 1, and it only does an occasional track day as I prefer bike days
don't worry about the cosmetic end of things I'd go for a car thats regularly driven

So a 7-8 year old car with 19,000 miles ,Say, is not a good one ?
And what do you mean "dont worry about cosmetic end of things" ?
And lastly, why the Mk1, apart from shape ?
