Can someone just give me an example of how the logistics of a pre-purchase inspection would work.

I presume you cannot get the Porsche mechanic to come out and inspect the car at its home, like you could with the RAC? So do you book it in somewhere and ask the owner to take time out of his schedule to get it inspected even though you foot the bill? Is this reasonable? I am thinking in the case where the car is at the opposite end of the country and it would not be possible to keep nipping back and forth yourself.
Also, is it better to go for an OPC inspection or indy? I have just read on here a car with full OPC is only 60% looked after compared to one maintained by an indy who finds far more potential issues.
What sort of prices should I be expecting to do a pre-purchase inspection by both OPC and indy?

I am also not sure if I have the warranty renewal procedure completely down. I need a check done for £250 and then I can (once everything has been put right) buy a years warranty for £850. (Is there a mileage limit during this year?) What if I had a pre-purchase inspection done with the OPC, do I still need to pay for the check at £250 once I have taken ownership of the car? Surely they go through pretty much the same things again?

Thanks all,
MaKS

Cambridge OPC went down and collected the car when I had one done. Where in the UK are you? If you're north then you should look at Hartech's warranty programme. It covers all of the OPC stuff, plus servicing and wear and tear, for a lower price. The first thing they do when you ring up to order your OPC warranty is tell you all the things it doesn't cover, which is a lot.

I am down south and the car is up north.

So they would pick the car up for the inspection? That might be a good option.

Thanks.

Just spoken to OPC and they suggested that the engine and transmission would only be covered under their extended warranty if the car already had a full PORSCHE CENTRE service history!!!

Is that right? That is a bit of an arse then.

Sorry ignore that last part.
Just got a call back from OPC Leeds. Spoke to a guy called Ben in service. Very helpful, friendly and informative.

He suggests that if the car has been serviced by a recognised independent using Porsche genuine parts then that is fine.

Also, I know most of you know this but just to confirm to those who are not sure.
If you make sure you do the pre-purchase inspection (111 point check @ £150 + VAT) with the Porsche Centre and make sure to do it in your name, if you then decide to purchase the car, you can then go right ahead and purchase the extended warranty for £895 (no VAT required on this) off the back of that inspection. No need to do another one once you have the vehicle in your possession.

Something else interesting he told me is that the OPCs actually do their 111 point check AND an RAC check when they take a vehicle in as part-ex.

What is a "recognised independent", is there a list of these.

Sounds like a loophole for the OPC to refuse a warranty repair if they so wished.

iirc, the inspection is only valid for 7days. ie. if you do not buy the car for a month after the inspection, you will need another inspection. that was told to me on friday, buy Porsche Sheffield.
