Does anyone know what were the standard options for a later (250hp) 944 turbo? I am guessing that option 220 (LSD), 593 (ABS) and 533 (Alarm system) were common to all cars for the UK? Was M030 (Club Sports Package) also the standard fitment for all later 944 Turbos?

Also, is the "Turbo S" designation just for the US market or was it used in the UK for later model Turbos too? (Or was it a limited edition model?)

confused

M030 was an option

Turbo S designated a limited run (supposed to be a thousand but it overran) of MY 1988 250 bhp cars

They were mainly silbarossa (Silver rose) but there were other colours and they sold worldwide

Many thanks cuneus.

Does any one know what the standard options for UK Turbos were?

It depends on the year. Are you looking to buy a car with a particular spec or confirm the correct spec of a particular car?

I know how to "decode" the options sticker but I was wondering if Porsche GB imported all of the UK cars with certain common options to which customers added their own preferences. For example, as far as I can tell, all of the later 250bhp Turbos have the LSD, ABS and Alarm options so I guess that these were not really "options" for the UK market. I was wondering if there were any more of these compulsory "options" that all later UK Turbos had fitted automatically?

The three quoted equipments were actually standard on all ROW cars.

I guess 90/91 cars without the removable roof panel (M650) are pretty rare ?

My '89 turbo has the following option codes on the sticker:

030, 139, 220, 288, 340, 383, 387, 454, 490, 526, 533, 573, 593, 605 & 650

In '89 stuff like the Konis, big brakes & LSD were part of the package & there was a sunroof delete option (mine has a sunroof so there is no code for that) but heated sports seats (left & right), cloth door trims & cruise control weren't.

For any kind of accurate answer to such a broad query I can only suggest you do some research by finding brochures & magazine articles for the years you are interested in or reading books that detail colours & specs of all variants year by year. Even then you'll find discrepancies

Edit: 233 should have read 288

Wow, this is confusing confused

OK, as far as I've can tell; all '89 Turbos had Option M030 (Club Sports Package) fitted as standard but this became optional (and quite rare) on '90/'91 cars. It was also fitted to all Turbo S cars, a limited run of 1000? special edition model (also know as Silver Rose after the special colour). M030 consists of the LSD, adjustable Yellow Konis (with the slotted screw adjuster under a dust cap on the top of the unit), stiffer springs, a thicker rear anti-roll bar (but not as thick as the later 968 M030 rear anti-roll bar) and cross-drilled brake discs. The LSD (Option M220) was standard even on the '90/'91 cars without M030.

There was also an Option M474 Sports Suspension which was fitted (rarely) to some '90/'91 cars and this consisted of different yellow Konis (without the slotted adjuster) - maybe Bilsteins in the USA? - and slightly stiffer than standard (but not as stiff as M030) springs, only.

Does that sound right? confused

Nope laugh

There were never any cross drilled discs

The Turbo S (and the S2) has a 26.8 mm front tubular anti roll bar, up from 25.5 mm of previous Turbo's. At some point in production of the 89 turbo they changed the rear sway size from 18mm to 16mm to "enhance stability" (IE more understeer).

Oh poo, there there I was thinking that I had it sussed eek

So I guess if a 944 has cross drilled discs they're either after market or from a 968?

yes

The 968 discs were cast (to try and prevent cracking)

The 250 front brake calipers & disks are 928 S4 parts (medium blacks), one of the contemporary 911 turbos (965?) had part compatable calipers (red) & disks which were cross-drilled (actually cast I think), as did the 968 with M030 (rare). A popular upgrade is to fit big blacks (from a 928GT) or big Reds (911 turbo) with corresponding disks & 17" wheels.

I'd say you are pretty close to the mark, certainly with the shocks & LSD. Every 250 turbo I've seen has had a slightly different spec (eg not all have aircon) and after 15-20 years most will be non-standard in some way.

When I was looking for mine I found that there weren't enough good cars around to choose from to be picky with the spec (or colour), buy on condition & service history.

650 is the equipment code for the "sunroof", which your car has if I got your post right.

M474 was available in early T220 and includes Koni shocks and shorter front springs.
It was also available on early S2 (MY89 only) and consisted of similar equipment but specific to the S2 - slightly different Koni shocks and different springs.
For '90 they introduced optional equipment M031 on the S2 which was basically the suspension of the '90 T250 ; same suspension gear was relabeled M757 for '91 - which is not related to the special model the M757 code refered to in '88 only nerd
Sometimes you wonder why they messed around with so many codes for so little technical variations !

I'd be curious to see a T250 without aircon. Seems to me they all came with it as standard.

Another point to note is that not all equipments fitted to a car are coded on the sticker.

You are right, I didn't phrase my reply all that well, sorry. I meant there is no code (afaik) for the sunroof delete option but again afaik they all came with a sunroof unless it was specifically requested not to have one in '89.

That was my understanding too.
