Ok so collected the car on Saturday...absolutely fantastic...even if the experience at the 'dealer' was very dissappointing...the 'govner didn't even acknowledge us at any point in the process...which made us feel very dejected and definitely spoilt the occasion; Quite unprofessional in fact.

Anyway...the thing is the remote on one of the keys isn't working....so I changed the battery....the light on the key now illuminates but still doesn't open/close the car....So I was wondering is there some process where the car has to 'acknowledge' the key because of the battery change? (the key itself will manually open the door & start the car)

What a truly fantastic machine these cars are...well apart from the sound system.....already done the headunit...speakers & amp to go. Oh by the way what speakers will fit in the front (dash) and back?

Thanks guys n girls

With regards to the key - had the same happen to one of my keys. The chip inside had failed and the OPC quote £100 to get it fixed! I passed for now. The other key works fine at the mo and even the dodgy key can still be used to manually lock/ unlock the car if required.

With regards to the stereo - I never bothered upgrading from the CDR 22 thingy. Had a sports exhaust fitted instead! Much nicer to listen to.

I would immediately take it back and mention the key remots does not work, they should rectify it for you. If they try to fob you off just keep plugging away.

Definitely get the selling dealer to get a new one organised. The price is closer to £200 and can only be done by an OPC. One of mine went and it was a trip to OPC Tonbridge and a couple of hours waiting whilst they get codes from Germany.

Bit dangerous knowing you only have one key. This is a pretty common fault so if your 1 key goes west you are completely buggered.

I suspect I`m the `govner in question here and it upsets me that you feel as you do. You had been dealing with Dan and more latterly Tom (as it was his old car you purchased). When you arrived on Saturday everyone was tied up with people. Dan greeted you & said someone would be with you in a minute, you said not to worry as you were happy to wander around. Sure enough Sharon was there shortly & dealt with the handover & talked you through the car. Tom broke away from his customer to say hello again & to say he was still looking for a Carrera badge he thought he had at home & for you to make sure you said goodbye before you left.

I was purchasing a car at the time & I appologise if you were ignored by me. Both Dan & Tom made time to say hello as it was they who had dealt with you initially. I was not involved in the sale although from memory believe we may have spoken after you had agreed to purchase the car.

My aim is for 911virgin to be good from the inside out not the top down. My hope is that it doesn`t matter who you deal with within the company, you will feel they are up to the job. I don`t want it to be the Henry Firman show. Tom, Dan, Steve, Noel & Sharon are all equal parts of the cake. Even Jet & our adopted new arrival Jake have their parts to play!

Once again appologies if my rudeness spoiled the experience.

Henry,

The team did exceptionally well.....and as you said even the hounds were most welcoming. As a whole I feel I have done well to have bought from you guys (and lady) and the manner in which we were looking felt unpressured. Initially we came to look at a 996 cab and ended up walking away with Tom's Coupe..which is a truely beautiful car and he has obviously been passionate in looking after it whilst in his care.

I'm an honest chap and don't believe in stirring up issues, it's just that we would have appreciated some form of acknowledgment from yourself and that is my only gripe; that's just my upbringing. Maybe it was our fault..over-excited and all especially as I was buying the car for my wife, who's dream car it has been since it came out in 98!

I take my hat off to you for putting your head up over the parapet on this one, and wish you all the best for the future...and I'm sure we'll be back to you when the Turbo beckons.....

David

Before you take it back, just put the key in the ignition, turn the ignition on but don't start the car, then hold the lock/unlock button down for 5 seconds or so... the remote/transponder codes may just need resychronising...

Hello

With regards to the key issue you can not resynchronise the key to the alarm box.....

You need the 16 digit pin number which is unique to each key it comes on a white label tied to the key with a piece of string you use the number to put the key onto the system and then throw it away...or if you had half a brain you would put it somewhere safe when replacing the keys, just in case you needed it again.

Chances are the key has failed internall..only a too common problem among boxster and 996 keys im afraid.

Key costs £80 +/- and coding takes 10mins...so would guess at £120 - £135 plus v.a.t

This can be done at most specialists i can code keys onto your system, dont know why DeniO waited 2 hours for the codes as opc just type them in now (last 8months at least) to their online system and get codes..not like it used to be had to ring up for them then they were faxed accross from porsche GB.

Regards Mike

Cheers chaps...I will get that sorted soon.

Regarding the speakers...I've now done that myself. I’ve posted a ‘Guide on How to Install ICE’ post on the forum.

Sorry - I was incorrectly assuming that it was a 9x7... didn't read the subject closely enough - In case the case of 9x7, the transponder code and remote seed may be resynchronised in the way I described above....

Mike,

It was about 18 months ago, not long after I bought the car, so may explain my wait. I took my laptop and did some work and was served Capucino by a very pretty receptionist. Probably why mine was closer to £200 than £135.
