Does 986 04 boxster S 550 have 987 air intake/filter?

Just gone to replace the standard air filter and after all the trouble getting to it, realised its nothing like what the 986 I had before was like (cartridge panel that slides in!) Does anyone know if the later 986 cars used the new models revised system, or is it unique to the anniversary 550? Thanks

your observation is correct !!! It is pretty much the same thing as in 987.

yes, its the reason for the increased bhp/torque in the 550.
