Is it me or does my 90 964C4 actually handle better when it's got a full tank of fuel in it? Just filled it up and it seems so much more planted, though of course heavier. Any one else get this or is it my imagination?
Oh and please god, don't turn this into a C2 vs C4, 964 vs 993, air vs water debate, KayC's opinion vs everyone else's (where it seems every thread on PH ends up regardless of topic

) 0ne litre of petrol weighs .72kg IIRC. Say for the sake of arguement your tank has a capacity of 70 litres, when you fill up your adding 50kg to the front of the car.
Thus it will tend make a big difference, it tends to keep the front tyres more in contact with the surface of the road as opposed to bouncing over undulations.
And to that end I always ensure the car has a fullish tank of fuel if going out for a hoon.

It certainly should make a difference. I run the race car with the spare wheel in it for the same reason.
One time when I had the corner weights & geometry done (@ Ninemeister) it was explained - I'll try and remember this correctly - that when I put more fuel in for the start of a race (geometry was done at minimum i.e race-finish weight) it will lower the front a little and therefore reduce the toe-out. This alone would be detrimental to the turn-in, but is compensated for by the additional weight of the fuel.
I need to reduce weight this year (I was usually finishing 25 - 30 kilos over minimum at the end of a race last year) so along with the removal of the passenger seat I am considering trying it without the spare wheel too. To compensate I may need a little more fuel (to bring the weight back up a bit - you can't remove half the spare wheel after all
) but also if the above was correct I may need to increase the toe-out a little to get the same kind of turn-in I'm now used to.
Being as the first race is in 5 weeks (Oulton Park 14th April) I should have all this sorted by now, but of course I have yet to try fit & test dampers, fit new brakes & tyres etc and all this is held up by the fact it's in bits having new sills fitted!
