Hi Guys, looking for some genuine, honest and of course friendly advise!!
For pure driving fun I currently run an Elise S2, but I am considering adding an Ultima GTR. I don't want to build it myself (lack of time) and have around £50k as a budget...
What will I be buying into? Are they useable on a weekly basis? How is mechanical reliability? Anything I should know about them?

An Ultima is not quite a jump in and go experiance like the Elise would be. For starters they all have full harness seat belts some having 5 or 6 point fitting. It is supprisingly big being only 470mm shorter but 7mm wider than a Range Rover so will not be as happy down country lanes as the Elise.
Also remember that due to the imence power your Ultima is likely to have a modicum of 'Due care and attention' should be applied to any journey or you can get bitten. More than one new Ultima owner has written off the car within days or even hours.
All that aside you will find it difficult to find the same power and performance anywhere else for the same budget which, it pains me to say, is actually more than enough for a very well specified GTR.
Mechanical reliability will depend on the quality of the build. Servicing is very simple and could be done by yourself or any competent mechanic as most do not include much in the way of electronics.
I use my GTR to go to work but if its pissing with rain I use something else cos it's no fun driving anything when it's raining.

As steve says GTR's and canam's are well within your Budget.
If you can live with a elise type then you can live with an Ultima as long as you are prepared to spend a little more time pamering it in the garage.
I'd say it would be worth looking for one with injection as this makes them easier to live with on the road but most important IMO is to buy on condition.

I looked at this Can-Am?

That Canam has been for sale with the same dealer for a very long time (over a year IIRC) at £49k it is priced VERY optimistically, as has been said take a look in the classifieds on here, a reasonable spec 02 Canam has just been sold by another dealer for under 30K so 19k more for the 04 plate car is a lot of money.

I would advise having a good look round before you decide to buy..I have viewed quite a few ultima,s and they vary alot on build quality...One of the best one,s i have seen is in Yorkshire and is currently having an article/feature done on it in one of the national car mags.......If you want the guys details i can pass them on and go and see it for yourself...the build quality is exceptional......
