MK1 GT3..
With Buckets.

Wear on the outer side of the bucket, wear on the centre console where the seat belt buckle has rubbed and wear on the gear knob ! all on a 24,000 miles vehicle, Its a car I am looking at, but wondered if this is normal ?

Thanks for the views...

Sounds unlikely at 24k unless it hasn't been looked after...

my MKII has 21k on it and no rub marks.

The chap who owns it, is not a messy person.. but the car is not mint inside.. NOT bad wear, just a few scuffs on the seat, which have gone a white colour.. But he is a fat (ish) lad ! Which don't help ?

Well my MkII GT3 drivers seat has scrunched leather on the side bolsters of the bucket seat and I have only done 17K. When I took delivery at 6K it had non. My car is very well looked after and there are no scuffs or marks on the seats or interior other than those mentioned above.

I think it depends on how wide you are with regard to the seats getting scrunched though not how many miles you do!

I am having the car looked over by JZM, so they will be having a good look over checking the ECU for mileage, over reving ect...

I wouldn't read too much in to the rev range 1 and 2 figures... unless rev range 2 was very recent. Its just unnecessary worry...

Hehe - fair enough! Thanks for the comments on the Snet vid.. I really enjoyed the circuit.

7357 - with regards to rev range 2, it is very unlikely to have caused any damage unless it was seriously buzzed. There are others around here that are aware of GT3 engines that have been buzzed to over 10k, stripped and checked and not found to have any issues.

Thanks Mate.. What I will do if its ok is post the points brought up via the PPI..
But I have been warned that Rev range 2, as long has not been in there for long is ok ??

What should I been listening too, to worry me when I get the call from JZM following the PPI ?

Thanks for the advise.

JZM are very experienced with GT3s - they will highlight any potential issues to you. A lot of tracked GT3s will have at least some rev range 2 (although there are a few around that haven't). Rev range 1 is registered every time the rev limiter kicks in, so expect to see quite a lot of them!

Only other things to be aware of on the markI GT3 are:

* Gearbox syncros were a weak point - an aftermarket set of steel synchros are available but its an expensive job
* The cross drilled front brakes often crack when used on track. Some cracking is allowed but they must be replaced if any of the holes join up or if the cracks exceed 5mm in length.

Otherwise they are great cars..

Good luck !

Thanks Steve,
She had a new set of Disc's and pads back in Dec 06' and its done 500 miles since.

Look a nice car from outside, its just the wear in the car that worry's me ! It could do with the wheel's re-ferb'd, and 2 new rear tyres !
Paintwork wise, its only had the rear quarter painted when he cliped his garage door (but has the bill from OPC)

Just hope she goes though ok ??

Let us know how you get on!

The wheels / corrosion are also a known issue. Some guys on here have had them refurbed and / or painted - they make quite a difference.

MK1 for £40k - 23,900 miles

or

MK2 for £50k - 14,900 miles

Why did I have to ask what the MK2 was up for ? Lets just pray the MK1's PPI comes out as A1 !!

Don't want to start a war, but is the MK1 better than the MK2 ?
With the handbuilt, and Porsche not caring what it cost to build ? when on the MK2 they did !

I had the same dilemma 2 years ago when I bought my MKII. I considered that an extra £10k to buy a car that was 3 years newer was the only option.

Both MKI and MKII are amazing cars so you won't go wrong with either. The decision can only be yours.

Thanks Steve,
I had a call from the chap who owns the car following the PPI, He said "a few things mate, I have just left JZM, and its needs a new clutch, paint work has not been done that well(on N/S/R)... and all 4 tyre need doing, (which he is having done as I type), the rear lights have been fitted badly following the repair on the rear(which was a scuff, not damage)....."

I will come back with the full report later and grab some advise. !

Fair enough..

The clutch is an expensive time consuming job (and a good time to do the single mass flywheel if it hasn't already got one) but at least you know it will have been done.

All this and it's £40k! The clutch and tyres are no big deal, but I'd want to know more about the paint work and ill fitting lights.

Lastly, I would ask them to have a good look at the suspension dampers. If they are the originals, they may not have much life left.

mine have starting to weep at 40k miles, so there may be some life left in a 24k mile car.
